if you dont get to the Sunbeam landing sight on tight there will be an alternative event where the
Sunbeam will do a fly-by and still get shot down, you will get an PDA VO when that happens ,
The Sunbeam is a secondary event and really part of the story to a sense, its more a story asset reveal, to advance in the sort you need to search for The Degasi survivor PDA's that are located at several places on the planet
the Captains code is given over the radio in your pod or if you built one on your base at a later stage
As for the code to the captains quarters, that one isn't given to you by the Sunbeam.
So you'll get it eventually.
You can always check your PDA under "Clues and Codes" to see if there are any leads you should be following.
Yes, you should go out to the Alien Base (where the Sunbeam was shot down on your first playthrough) and download data from the terminals there. One of the entries will appear under the "Codes & Clues" section of your PDA. Read that entry and think about what you should do next if you want to cure yourself of the infection so you can leave the planet.
Maybe the aliens were already working on a cure and you can try to pick up where they left off?
