Built a Seabase near a Leviathan
Alright, so in the Grand Reef I was building a seabase and after making a scanner room and using the camera I found out that I was very close to a Ghost Leviathan.
Should I abandon the base and go somewhere else or can I stay there as long as I don't provoke the leviathan?

Idk depends how close you are. I had a nice base in the edge of the dunes not far from a reaper. But I knew his route and I just stayed out of his little bubble. It was a great base. right on the edge of bloodkelp trench near a smoker and an alien vent, red grass was close too. Great farming spot.

I haven't done a Grand Reef yet specifically because it's fully Crabsquids and the Ghosty and doesn't have much for materials that I could see.... but still want to build one there eventually. I'd go a little deeper near the entrance to the lost river where there's some thermals to use.
Would bases even be considered targets for leviathans to aggro on?

Anyway, Ghost leviathans are the least dangerous of the three main ones. The biggest problem I’d say you’d have with one so close is the tendency of leviathan-class creatures to noclip into terrain.

Yeah, I built near some thermal vents and the whole time I was building I didn't even notice the Leviathan! Can they damage seabases?

I don't think so. I just build one in the active lava zone and the guy in there dive bombs me all the time. He damages me and my vehicles but he doesn't seem to hurt my base.

The other bases they just didn't come that close, they were close but like I had to go a little past my base to even see their shadows ahead... maybe Reapers and Ghosties can but I don't think so. Remember reading they removed that while back.

I have a cyclops parked there and the ghost is like ~200m away from the seabase.

If you are where I think you are you're probably fine. In my games he stays kind of mid-water he doesn't go down deep unless he's chasing you. So just don't go cruising right by him in your cyclops he can take it down pretty quick

I mean that's pretty close... Idk as long as you have a safe route in and out with cyclops and you pay attention you're probably fine. You can build a 2nd scanner room and dedicate one to him...

That's what I did with my dunes bases 1 scanner for reapers one for resources. Eventually I took down the reaper one cuz I didn't need it I knew where they go

Ghost Leviathans aren't as bad as Reapers, if only because they're a lot quieter and don't grab your vehicles. They tend to have a larger detection radius, but it's entirely fine for you to hide in the base - they can't damage it.

One of my projects was to build bases just to get close to leviathans:

It will not hurt the base but can hit it while trying to get to you. Sometimes they even get stuck under a moonpool and are then easy to kill.

They should not attack the Cyclops when you are not in it. The Ghost will attack the Seamoth and Prawn when you are not in them.

Basically just be aware that it is close by and stay alert when going to and from that base.

Well I just found out the hard way (I should have recorded it!)...

I built a base pretty far out there so I could scan for fragments (trying to find the cyclops blueprints). Turns out a Reaper Leviathan was about 100m away. I hoped he would stay where he was, as he was higher up in the water and barely visible, but then I watched thru the camera drone in horror as he circled directly above my makeshift base and eventually shot down and was sniffing around the scanner room where I was hiding. And trembling...

Apparently he couldn't get into the base so he settled for my SeaMoth. He was grabbing it with his cranial appendages and tearing it apart; tossing it around like a dog with a chew toy. All I could do was helplessly and hopelessly watch as he eventually destroyed my only ride back to safety (along with all the expensive upgrades). Oddly enough, he vanished as soon as he completely destroyed my SeaMoth. I was able to SeaGlide my way back, stopping only to scan a cyclops engine fragment before high-tailing-it back to the shallows. Lesson learned...?

The only real vulnerability when building near leviathans is your exposed vehicles, an issue that can generally be resolved if you park them in a Moonpool. Alternatively, you can create a makeshift cover for your vehicles by building a MP room with enough space to park the vehicles under it. The leviathans won't be able to get to them there.
