Sta away from a reefback?
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=834690134
If fact they're better than harmless, they can be beneficial - you can harvest materials off their backs.
Other then their bad habbit of humping your base if you build it to close, they are harmless.
And even if they do try to mate with it they can't damage it.
If you see something long, thin, and huge, avoid as much as possible. Reefbacks are the only docile thing of that size that you encounter in the wild.
Reefbacks make a long, low bellowing noise. Find some and learn what they sound like so you know not to be worried about that sound. Also, look for babies, the babies are cute as heck but still pretty big. Just swim right up to 'em and take a look around for the blue-topped barnacles, just watch out for the tiger plant thorns. Tiger plants can be hacked to death, stasis-rifled, or just avoided. They also won't shoot at Prawns, though good luck getting a Prawn on the back of a Reefback.
They're pelagic- they live in open water. Usually near the surface. There's some over the areas with red grass most of the time.
