It used to be useful, it used to be very powerful indeed shooting you out of the water by a few meters.

It was a bit to powerful though. The devs tryed to balance it but could never seem to find that sweet spot between the two ends. In the end I think they might have given up as the seaglide works better anyway.

The only item in this game that I'm sure is a troll item is the alien rifle.
If you find/found it, you'll understand why.

As I left the area where it was, the creature guarding it yoinked my seamoth so i had to swim 1000 meters back to the life pod :(

I'm still kicking myself for not recording that when it was like that in early access. It only did that for a short period and I knew it wouldn't last - should have recorded it so people could have seen how fun it was to use when it was like that. Maybe the Devs would have left it that way - added so much usefulness *and fun*.

The deeper you were, the faster you'd be going when you reached the surface. If you were deep enough when you started you could get a good 5 meters into the air on surfacing, allowing you to refill your O2 tanks while airborne, before tipping over and diving back in like a dolphin - such a blast!

You could downgrade Subnautica by downloading depots using the Stean Console. I'm not explaining it here. Look up how if you want to. I did it once to experiance Early Access Subnautica.

Are you talking about the prop in the alien gun facility?

The air bladder is decent in early game, dont have to hold w all the time.

The amount of time it takes to craft the bladder is just as inconvenient as the amount of time it takes to hold w to swim up, I dont know why the item is ingame, its a waste of a tool lol.
It’s one of my go-to early game items (and FYI, it still can launch you out of the water).

From my experience with it, it seems to have a momentum mechanic in place. The longer you rise with it, the faster it goes. This makes it ideal for (relatively) medium depth dives, between 100 and 300 meters. Once you get past 300 meter depths though, you’re better off having a powered vehicle to jump in to.

Edit: If you want a real troll item, look no further than the Pathfinder Tool. This item seems to have been a constant struggle to get to function correctly since EA. It’s better now than it used to be since the lights it shoots can’t clip through walls like cable it originally had could, but it still has a very limited utility.

Really? It must take a while to build momentum, because I tried using it from 100 meters down when i first crafted it and just switched to seaglide after 20 meters, it felt useless. And when you are past 100+ meters there is no reason to not use seamoth. I didnt even try pathfinder tool yet, beacons work just fine for me so far. What is it supposed to do better than beacons? can you use it in a seamoth?

Yep. Back in EA that wasn't there and after an endless tide of (not that they really stopped, there's just less of them) "put gun in game/game need gun/you much add gun to game because *blah, blah blah*", that thing turned up one day.

There is one place that tool shines, cave systems to small to fit a seamoth.
Without that tool (and a fully upgraded airtank) I might have not made it back, alive, out of that giant tree with my fourth cuddlefish. That place was built to be a maze, no mistake.

It's not what it used to be, but the air bladder is an emergency lift tool before you are motorized. It is an "inflate and forget" lift to the surface that can save your life when you are pushing the air limit. By manual swimming going into blackout means you stop moving whereas with the inflated bladder during the first few seconds of the blackout you are still going upward and if you reach surface in time you can wake up alive. The window is narrow but it saved my life many times (too many from my safety manager point of view).
In short, it is not needed but it can help with the first few deep dive.
Harry Willy Aug 22, 2018 @ 4:46pm
Its not neccessary sure, but the airbladder definitely served as useful. It took me ages to get the seamoth and seaglide because I wasnt aware they were in the game at first and just swam around and upgraded my flippers.
It definitely saved my life several times when i was diving in cave systems, even in the safe shallows when I almost didn't give myself enough time. I also used it to escape stalkers and to let me explore the grassy plains, before I eventually found seaglide schematics.

It loses its usefulness as the game goes on, but definitely is nice to have.

PS
I also miss being able to launch myself from the water, the bladder was good for that, seaglide used to be too, but the devs seem to have nerfed it, most of the time I dont go shooting out any more. Still working in the Seamoth though, I've used it a bunch of times to do jumps over super shallow coral or rocks, simply because its kinda rad. One of these days I'm definitely going to accidentally beach myself ><
Antarata Aug 22, 2018 @ 5:00pm
Don't you need to use oxygen for the air bladder to work?
Harry Willy Aug 22, 2018 @ 6:40pm
I think so, but not a lot, like it was said above, another advantage is that even if you run out of oxygen and start to black out, with the air bladder you'll still rise and it can still save you
