I'm lousy at searching and found nothing about overall map size, but did find that there are 5 confirmed biomes. If those biomes are about the same size as the ones in Subnautica it will be larger than 1/6th the size. The Subnautica map is more of a cube than a flat map so who really knows.

don't forget, theres Length, Width and Depth, it could smaller in length and width, but be very deep and complex, loads of Ice Caves and caverns with large Air pockets where some creatures and resources could be, under ground airtight caverns big enough to build a base. who really knows

Yeah... that's outdated info.
Sub-Zero will be its own game.

Sure, it was originally planned to be DLC but this isn't the case anymore.

Expansions fall under the scope of DLC. And if you stop No Mans Skying for a second you will read "expansion OF subnautica.

Not a new game. Its the same game with some new content. A new gme takes lomger than the year or two being spent on this.

EXPANSION DISCLAIMER
The Expansion is a standalone experience separate from the original Subnautica, not a DLC add-on.
