Voice acted vehicles and bases?
This is likely something that has been asked before, but bleh.

While I've been playing, I've noted the voices that certain systems such as the habitat, seamoth and cyclops have to announce certain things. Don't get me wrong, I think that's a really neat idea to give them their own voices, but I feel like the fact it's all text-to-speech takes away from the element of personality that the systems would have. The voice acting in this game is phenominal, especially for the PDA recordings, so I feel like having voice acting for those few lines that the systems have wouldn't be much of a stretch, and it would add much more personality to your base and vehicles, instead of the jumbled, often glitchy sounding text-to-speech.

I think it was intended to be like that, probably to make the systems and machine feel more robotic.

Here are the A and B recordings of said systems. It is just a Text-to-speech software then heavily modified to make it what it is, in the game.

I understand the whole thing of making it feel robotic, but I feel like a better option would just be to have actual voice acting, and apply similar effects. I'd really love to see more of this game's voice acting, because it was phenominal and really got me into the stories of the other survivors, and having the vehicles not utilize that talent feels like a bit of wasted potential.

ha, read the title as "voice activated..."

on the op, i wonder if it can be modded. with that deep voice program, you could really use any voice you wanted to

The AI voices in here were good, but NOTHING will EVER top the Ship-wide announcement system of the U.S.G. Ishimura from the original Dead Space. A co-worker still busts a gut from 3 years back when I played a clip from that game and panicked some visiting higher ups, thus proving they really arnt smarter than the rest of us "LIFE SUPPORT and CLIMATE SYSTEM MALFUNCTION! Hazardous condition. Please contact a repair specialist" repeats every 30 secounds.

The point is that they do sound like machines. Because they are! However, a real voice actor was used for the emperor because it is actually a living thing, not a machine. The same goes for the life pod survivors and radio messages. Those are not machines. Machines are supposed to sound like machines, not animals. Interesting idea though. :)
