Too Dark in Caves
Generally I think Subnautica is too dark, especially in parts of caves and the Inactive Lava Zone. I know this is to give players a challenge but at some point it's not a challenge but a huge frustration to the point I want to give up the game. I have tried to turn up the brightness on my monitor and that only works to a point, it's still too dark. The Cyclops has bright headlights which penetrate about exactly 10 feet forward. You won't see a wall until you're about to run into it.

Now I notice that on many videos (not by any means all) the brightness is sufficient to see what's around the player in these darker areas. What is going on? I'm not able to play with the highest graphic settings on my system, could that be the problem? Or is there some settings I'm overlooking?

Driving the cyclops will get easier when you find the sonar, just don't over do it. Ping once, and work with what you saw for as long as you can to save on cell power.

As to the other videos, check what date they are. A lot of things changed when it was in EA, with how far you could see in some areas and how well the cyclops headlights worked being but two of them.
23 January 2018 is the point where it left EA so anything to far before that should be taken with a pinch of salt if you're looking for advice and/or tips from them.

Do you have Cinematic Mode on? That generally makes things a lot darker.

Cyclops headlights have always been pretty useless but as Peeper suggests - have you tried messing with all the video options? Some of them will brighten stuff up or make it sharper so it's easier to see what's what.

I have few video options...and they're ambiguous. There's PRESET: Low or Medium (High causes slideshow on my computer) Water Quality: M, Anti Aliasing: FXAA and AA quality: low. Don't see a lot of options there. A Cinematic Mode does not appear on my options.Using Mac version. Monitor brightness can be turned way up, but doens't seem to help much but does help some.

I think you may need to be ingame, the option is under "Color Grading", it's also called Filmic now. My mistake.

Honestly, just grab the seamoth and the flashlight and use them, you can dock the seamoth in the cyclops. Their beam is pretty powerful. Also, if you know how to install mods and wish to use one that might help, go look up this url https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/59

This mod actually makes light beams useful, especially in the darkness.
