Cyclops Sonar makes no sense
It's the same as the Seamoth's sonar, which costs about .5% of 1 battery for 1 pulse.

The Cyclops uses 1% of 6 batteries for 1 pulse.

Uhhhh maybe someone who isn't an idiot should put the Seamoth's sonar in the freaking Cyclops?! :OhNo:

Crap yeah it's a typo sorry. I'd guestimate about half a percent per ping, if that.

OK, no problem. Your complaint makes much more sense to me now!
Considering animals don't seem to care about you pinging at them, I assume "sonar" is a euphemism for something more science-fiction-y. An active scanning method that stealthily detects both terrain and hostiles seems like a good use of 1% of your power.

Pretty sure the wavelength used by sonars IRL is not detected by fish anyway, let alone huge ones.

Yet scientists say that whales and other marine life strand because sonar messes with their sense/orientation.
It may get proven and disproven at least a dozen times over a single year, but what doesn't?
We also have phones that play mechanical camera sounds when they record a still image. People are weird about technology. It's quite natural that scanning system on a sci-fi submarine would always be call sonar, even if it doesn't use sound.

Plus it's probably a game balance thing. Why even have lights if the sonar sees so much more clearly?

Because the lights do nothing when you play in cinema mode or whatever it's called again.

In darker more dangerous areas all I used was the sonar and kept to the seafloor. Seems to make it harder for leviathans etc. to see you.

guys OP is a noob only has 47 hours on his profile probably brought the game when it fully came out like im sick and tired of people crying about stuff the game is already ridiculously easy to win at leviathans and most creatures are ZERO threat once you get a stasis rifle and the cyclops you only use the sonar once or twice in a row and if you still cry about its energy consumption well 3 solutions
1- dont use it to begin with
2- use it sparingly and bring spare power cells i always have the 6 power cells and 6 reserve onces there problem solved
3-use the cyclops thermal reactor and/or the engine efficiency module problem solved stop crying or the devs will make energy consumption lower making this already ridiculously easy game even easier

"245 hrs on record"

What the hell do you do for that many hours? I got bored and cheated at the end, too. Didn't feel like spending 5 hours backtracking for materials for the rocket. And now that I beat it I'm moving on to something else. It's a sweet game but 47 hours is more than enough for me.

LOL i have been playing this game for 3 years with 245 hours and il probably easily get another 245 before i quit its addictive and each playthrough is unique providing almost endless replay value so yes if you come to the forums to cry about 'cyclops sonar too much power drain"maybe 2 things
1- GIT GUD scrub
2- one of the alternatives i already sugested from a experienced player

I can't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ even. :cfacepalm:

Sonar too expensive? Sounds like you don't have enough power cells.

ive only just entered the lava place, and honestly? i was so glad id constructed it, it was ridiculously useful in helping navigate. it helped way more than the lights EVER could have, and id call the module a necessity - far from being nonsensical..
Greep Feb 9, 2018 @ 9:48pm
Yup. Had to craft this for the inactive lava zone as well. Everywhere else either has lights, bright lava, or close walls for the cyclops lights to shine on.
