How to identify creature eggs?

I can't scan it. So I pick up an egg and I have no idea what it is. How can I know which egg is which?

You have to hatch them once. Also, each monster egg has a different design.

I haven't hatched any, but it seems like the best clue is the biome and location you find it in. I usually find small, red spherical eggs in the caves in Safe Shallows, so I'm assuming those are Crashfish eggs (since Crashfish are red, round and live in the same caves these eggs appear in).

I'm assuming you can extrapolate from there, but it's just my guess.

once you play the game long enough you can tell by the design of the egg and location what creature it belongs to some eggs look just like the creature while other are more subtle

Part of the fun with eggs is certain things are usefull, Crashfish turned pro-pulsion ammo,tiger sharks eat biters and get eaten by, reapers. WAY cheaper than creature decoys. I still wish we could raise ghost leviathans after I watched one take out a warper.
