Can vent covers be removed?
I remember reading something along the lines of the propulsor or repulsor gun can remove those solid vent covers on wrecks.

I've never needed to before, but now I've found a wreck with has no other entrance, then an external, covered vent.

So anyone have experience with this issue?

Every wreck I have seen has a way in, either directly, or by cutting a door, or rarely by repairing a door control. One has a room you need to move a piece of metal to access.

There is always a way in

check that the doors arent openable or cuttting them or repairing
check all holes for ways in
if you see the wrecks vent externally follow it to the open end

As for using the re/propulsor theres a few wrecks with ladders covered by doors that need moving but never been able to use them on vent covers

It's the one big one down in the middle-ish area of the grand reef.

I DID find another way in and explored all possible rooms.

However, after building my scanner base nearby, I see there is an arm fragment for the prawn inside a room which I CANNOT get to from inside.

not all areas of all wrecks are accessible without console commands. and even then not always. if u cant go thru a vent thats open, a crack in the superstructure, cut the door open, repair a door panel, or use a console command to unlock the inaccessible door, then there is nothing there. if u have to use the console then there probably wont be anything behind it

you think the scanner is giving a false possitive?

I think there is some bugginess with the fragment placement.

In my current game I could scan a fragment in the kelp forest wreck that was inside a cargo crate I could easily reach but that crate's only opening was flush against a solid wall so it couldn't be looked into for scanning and the repulsor gun couldn't pick up the crate to move it, so it was effectively unreachable.

Eventually it dissapeared from my scans as I continued on with the game, I imagine whatever tech it was, I discovered it in a scan elsewhere. You too may just have to move on and hope you find that another copy of that fragment. :steamsad:
Ah I see.
Well I actually had scan markers disapear before; that's why I asked.

Still I was hoping the propulsor gun was more useful then it's useless upgrade the repulsor. :steamfacepalm:

this fragments have a tendency to appear inaccessible areas of the wrecks. that bein said though i have had the scanner room since 1.0 and have had a couple false positives. primarily when i built my first one it was detecting gel sacks in the safe shallows visiting the marked location showed only the indicators hovering roughly ten feet from the bottom of the safe shallows bottom. THERE WAS NOTHING THERE

If you realy want to know what the fragment is you can always still freecam first to check if its worth it.

The wreck as a whole, yes. There are a number of rooms that only have one point of entry, though. There's one wreck in the grassy plains with a room that can only be reached with a laser cutter. No vents, no breaches, just the one door. There are laser cutter fragments inside.

Aren't fragment spawns random, though? Maybe you got an unlucky RNG.

fragments are revealed by the scanner room, regardless if you have them or not. they are there, but as you get closer, they disappear if you already have the tech. annoying, but true. i had the moonpool, fragments showed. i got closer it disappeared. moonpool fragment. just sayin'.

sometimes u can cut through doors. also look for breaks in all sides of the wrecks lots of times they are dark and hard to see.
please also be advised that there are smaller wrecks that DO NOT have an entrance and only have fragments strewn about the area.
