Reefback Eggs
Did they make it into the final stable verison?
Wiki says no but these have always been iffy on the wiki page.

It seems so, but I haven't seen that massive egg at all in stable but every time I pass by this region theres more and more smaller reefbacks

They have a pretty rare drop rate and if you saw them.... you'd know. Its egg is like 1/2 the size of seamoth, only ever saw them spawn in the red grass area that isnt near the aurora

They have not been implimented into the game yet, sadly. The reefback egg model is in game, but as tiny eggs for the spadefish. Which is kind of sad. Baby Reefbacks make great biofuel.

Ugh thats annoying. They been in experimental for so long it blows my mind that they are in the stable yet.

I don't understand it either. I don't know if you still can, but you were able to spawn them with console commands. So if you have a save you don't mind cheating on you can spawn them in.

I have my base set up near some grassy plateaus and I think I found some reefback eggs.

After reading this thread I set up my scanner room to search for creature eggs and found some 1x1 unidentified size eggs, with the same texture model as the Spadefish eggs (I have identified those). Hard to spot in the tall red grass so I highly recommend a scanner room to search.

However, after putting the egg in my containment, it didn't hatch. The egg is broken but so far no fish have appeared out of it. Can provide screenshots if you guys wish, will do more testing and keep you guys updated.

If its a reefback it has to be more than 1 containment stacked ontop for it to hatch.
Let me know!

Edit: if the egg already broke and nothing came out, then it's a dead egg. I have to ask you, are you sure you didn't console it in? I'm not doubting you, I just want to be sure. I'll go make a scanner room in the grassy Plateaus right now and try to see if I can test this myself.

Only time I used the console was to get my seamoth unstuck. So no, I didn't spawn them in. Herer's a screenshot of an egg I found in the wild: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1287357390

I found 3 more eggs which I put in my containment. It's stacked 3 high by the way, so I doubt the egg didn't spawn anything because of the size. Currently I'm thinking that they are in the game, but because of their 1x1 size and not hatching anything, that their functionality hasn't been implemented yet.

Looks like a spadefish egg still, just from size, but since it didn't hatch into anything hard to tell if it's a bugged reefback egg or bugged spahefish egg. I'll see if I can get some conclusive results.

I found spadefish eggs before and hatched them, so they identify as spadefish eggs for me now. This however is still an unidentified egg, which is why I'm thinking it's a reefback.

Update here, the other 3 unidentified eggs I put in my containment hatched. 2 of them produced spadefish, the 3rd didn't spawn anything. So looks like Philosororaptor is right. The eggs are indeed spadefish eggs and not reefback eggs.

Only thing I'm finding weird about this is that they don't identify as spadefish eggs. Could be they are placeholders for when they do decide to implement them, but it seems currently, reefback eggs are indeed not in the game.

I hope they get them into the game eventually.

You can put them in you inventory and when you let them loose in the wild they explode to full size instantly.
Fun with exploding reefbacks.

My husband and I both had an egg randomly spawn inside our containment tank. It hatched into a reefback. We never picked it up, it just spawned in there. Trying to figure out why that happened..
