Practical applications for floaters?

Is there anything useful you can use a floter for? What can you float with them?

If you start a new game in creative you start out with 5 of them. (It wont overwrite your main game.)

I haven't found any positive practical use for them yet, but they can be attached to creatures and vehicles. I guess you can use them on a Seamoth to force it to stay above a certain depth, since some creatures can drag it down to below crushing depth. But really, probably not worth the time, finding a better parking spot is recommended.

Anything you can attach them to that isn't solid ground or your base will float.

Though there's not a lot of practical uses for them.

Well, I did come up with one. You could keep an emergency few in your PRAWN suit and if it ever gets stuck in a deep hole in can't climb out of, the floaters will get it out.

I see. Has anyone tried to float predators, like basically banning a ghost leviathan to stay near the ceiling of a cave, something like that?

Yes, people have tried this before. From what I understand it takes a LOT of floaters.

I've found a couple of caves that are blocked by boulders in the shallows. Attach a few floaters to lift the rock and you can explore the cave. Nothing really special in them though, but I thought it was cool that you could do it.
I like Demon's idea better though. It sounds more practical to use it for your prawn suit.

It's also possible that there are wrecks with blocked passages where this might work if you don't have the propulsion gun. I haven't found any like that yet though.

....I just had a stupid, stupid, idea. What happens if you attach floaters to Sea Treaders? Would they still make resources if they float up to the surface? If so, can the propulsion gun be used to push the Treader into shallow waters?

What is a Sea Treader?
I've heard lots about the sea treaders path, but I've never found it or scanned any creature called a sea treader. I've been through the Lost river, I've seen crabsquids, warpers, leviathans, eels, ect, but apparently never a sea treader.
What are they and where are they?

S.T. path is directly West of the sparse reef (there’s a upside-down U shaped wreck there). You can also find them in the Grand Reef as well.

Found a herd in the center-south, below DeGrasse Island. They move along the seabed, just short of the cliffs that lead into the void.
