Proposal: Habitat/crafting planner
If I plan to go deep sea exploring far away from main base I often bring enough materials to build a simple base with misc features. It would be nice if the habitat builder had the following function:

When in the construction menu, if right-clicking (or shift-click) blueprints, the selected objects and total required crafting items would list up i.e. to the left or right of the main window. Rightclicking items in that list That way, gathering and bringing crafting materials and planning would be so much smoother. Since the right-click function closes the menu today, it can be tweaked to have two different functions, since exit menu could still be active if clicking between blueprint thumbnails.

I covered the Blueprint Tracker mod in my First Mods! showcase vid (skip ahead to 5:30 for Blueprint Tracker):

OP may also want to check out the Habitat Control Panel mod, which allows a small base to be powered by Power Cells mounted in the walls:

I like this idea.
Beyond keeping track of what you have in your backpack in relation to what you can build it doesn't do any of the real work for you.
You would still need to gather the items, take them where you want them, and put it all together. It would just let you know if you had all you needed before hand.
And while that's nothing that hard to do on it's own, when trying to plan out a more complex base it would help keep track of all the little things you need to stock up on before heading out to make it.

Personal thought's on it's place in the game.
Make it an equipable item, taking up the same slots that would normally hold either the compass or the scanner HUD. This way it's optional to people that don't want it taking up screen space and because you don't need it all the time.

I created my own using a spreadsheet.

Now I just enter the amount I want for all objects you can create in game.
Sums it all up nicely in a list with all Raw materials needed. And I can also enter
how much I have of each material so it recalculates the remaining resources needed.

Would be nice to have it in game tho. Great idea.

I use an actual notepad and pen to make my lists.

It also contains some Small Base Designs for different situations. (Not my designs tho)

great :)

I usually just do the math in my head. Spreadsheets and notepad are good ideas though, but for longer planning it would be nice to have an integrated function :)

The nice thing with using a spreadsheet is that I can select a predefined Base Layout
such as this:

BIO BASE
Multipurpose Room
Hatch
Plant Pot
Water Filter
Bioreactor
Narrow Bed
Scanner Room
Power Cell Charger
Reinforcement

and it gives me exactly what I need to bring/collect to construct everything from scratch.

Would be nice to have that "Tool" in game tho and linked to your current inventory with
materials.

Then again, I'm a spreadsheet nerd and creates them for just about anything lol.
