How do i use a water filtration machine?
Completely clueless here.

You mean building it? It has to connect to an exterior wall in a Multipurpose Room (to suck in the salt water for filtration).

So i just wait until it reaches 100% water and 100% salt?

Yeah it’s automated, just runs until it fills with 2 salt and 2 filtered waters

salt processes twice as fast as water, just make sure you have a decent power supply, the machine is power hungry.

Emphasis on power hungry. If you are relying strictly on solar power, I probably wouldn't build one.

Well i have 3 solar panels and a bioreactor.

^That's borderline okay probably - best way to mitigate the power use is to only remove what you need from the Water Filtration Plant (don't just clear everything out when it's full and move it all into storage). Leave the Salt (if you don't need it) and only remove the water you need, one bottle at a time.

Also the water filtration module has to be UNDERWATER to work properly. If you build it above the waterline it's not going to give you salt, and barely any water.

Recommend having lots of solar or a few thermals to power it.

I really wish that machine had an on/off switch, just for itself. Anything that can drain this much power ought to give me the option of turning it off. I can stop the Scanner Room, after all. It doesn't have to be scanning and running my batteries flat all the time.

It kind of does. If it has produced two salt and two water and you leave them in the machine it will stop running.

Right, but it still has to suck down a LOT of energy to get to that state in the first place. Plus I might want to pull off a water bottle or some salt without immediately hitting my grid with a power surge. Just having an on/off switch for one of the most expensive base modules in the game seems reasonable.

I usually set up a small base just for water filtration machines and food. Keeping the water filtration in a separate base means they won't drain your power in your main base. Two multipurpose rooms in the safe shallows with solar panels. One room has 3 water filtration machines and a fabricator, and the other an alien containment with 10 peepers. I cure 6 peepers out of 10 with the salt from the filtration and so have an endless supply of food and water.

My makeshift on and off switch for the water machine is to just deconstruct it but only 99%, that way you can "turn it back on" immediately with the habitat builder when you need it.

That's rather brilliant. Thanks!

No problem.
