Go into the open sea, drop it. You can drop things when in the water.

Well, I did mean it as more a stop-gap until the bin was an option.

craft 2 portable underwater storage, thats more than enough storage until you get the sub

yeah the extra standard o2 is useless since u always upgrade the one u have. however u might consider turning it into the lightweight tank tho

thats why at least once per game i purge the cache files

Early game just drop it under your life pod. Later on pick it up and put it into a locker labelled "dive gear". There might come a time when having an extra tank can come in handy.

Though, if you think it's worth sacrificing the inventory space you can also use it for extra oxygen. You can swap tanks while diving. Just remember to fill them both after use.
