CYCLOPS - Do you even need one?
Hey I just finished the game and my question is: Do you even need Cyclops at all? That submarine is so big and sure, it can move with some serious speed, but at what cost? I lost cyclops first time i moved to place where those BIG rainbow leviathans spawns.. i built seccond, move him to Lost River but I actually never used it. The movement in caves are really annoying and I couldnt move it to lava zone, because of that "rainbow leviathan junior"´s buttocks :D

Interesting. Those “rainbow” leviathans (ghost leviathans) I managed to get past every time in Cyclops (just go at the slowest speed and hug the wall, at least that works with the one coming via the B.K. trench). But you’re right, you probably do not NEED one to complete the game but I found having one in survival mode was very convenient (allowing you to haul more materials to base and having a fabricator to produce food/water). A lot will just really depend on how you play and there’s no right or wrong answer to that!

I built one because I could. I didn't find it much fun to use, so I just carted my PRAWN suit around in it...Pretty much just to and from the bottom of the larger Lost River cave.

That said, I was also able to completely ignore the Cyclops, and return to my base (Safe Shallows, Lifepod 5) on more than one occassion, with the PRAWN suit only, from the Active Lava zone (advanced thrusters helps a lot).

In the end, when you don't need to worry about travelling long distances in the PRAWN suit, I only bothered to drive the Cycops back to my base out of sense of organization.

It's a mobile base - once you get down into the deeper zones you can either build another base down there OR just use the Cyclops instead. Which one is totally up to you. If you don't want to build another base down there then yes, you need the Cyclops.

Or you can just forgo a second base altogether. I only had one base on my first playthrough, and aside from parking my cyclops down at the entrance to the ILZ, I hardly used it, especially after getting advanced thrusters. Not that it doesn't make things a lot easier (having food and water close at hand), but not neccessary.

Not really if you got a suit up prawn and know how to use the grapple arm. The cyclops can act as a mobile base and storage transporting but it's slow.

Cyclops and a bed saved my life so many times when it got dark underwater. Not to mention to move my prawn around, use the cyclops as a energy reload station, food supply, and and and.
I luv ma lil cycy

I prefered to build a base in Lava zone, because that water filtering station and agroculture were essential for my survival.
My question was towards some unknown reason.. like travelling somewhere only cyclops could. I tried one time to go near the edge, but cyclops were attacked instantously. :( Then I lost interest on that matter :D

The cyclops if you book it on silent gets by ghost levithans easy... that said reapers love to ram em. I used it so i could go down deep with the prawn suit in an easier manner and set up a way station in lost river.

Cyclops carrying a prawn and sneaking past leviathans with silent running I found worked beautifully for me once I got into the lost river and the lava zones. I guess you could technically just do the lava zone part entirely in a prawn, but the lack of storage and lack of crafting stations would strike me as very annoying. Also full visibility and aggro on the sea dragon leviathans and the vulnerability to being yanked out of your prawn by warpers and having it dunk into lava while you aren't piloting it.

Also the cyclops has so much storage potential that you can carry enough food to last you for ages. And this might seem counter-intuitive (it was to me) but you can actually build grow beds inside the cyclops. Overpowered? Yep! Grow bed with melons and whatever else you like, and you literally have infinite food and water.

I'm not sure it does other than passing time... There isn't even a good spot for a bed in the cyclops, which strikes me as a bit of an oversight. Would've been nice to have at least a double bunk berth in one of the walls to represent that it's intended for a crew of three.

yah it just allows you to skip nights (or days if you're a vampire).

it is cool too have a big sub

I moved my Cyclops dow to Lava Zone to build a second base there, you can get through even with the Ghost Leviatan. In my first run.

In the second one, Hardcore, I finished it not using it. But yes, you need it, to build a Neptune requeriment.

Claybot Mar 4, 2018 @ 12:59pm
No you dont need it all you really need is the Seamoth and the PRAWN. But if you want to leave the plant you need it for for one module on the Neptune
