Are Torpedoes Useless?
I just loaded up six Vortex Torps onto my Seamoth and went to fight a Reaper Leviathan to test it out. I fired the whole rack and they didn't even seem to bother him. Are torpedoes just useless or only useful against smaller targets?

Torpedoes in this game do not kill creatures outright. They are more for deterring.

So useless then. I could just as easily drop a decoy to escape the monsters. Seems I wasted resources building a torpedo launcher for the Seamoth. Shame when the Perimeter Defense System is more lethal than a gravitational distortion.

Thank you for the speedy answer, even though I was hoping for a different one. :)

Waste of titanium, yes.

Well it’s another feature for the seamoth. Decoys are in the cyclops. Honestly none of the vehicle mods are meant for killing Leviathans. They can usually be outright avoided.

I found the Vortex torpedo to be very useful. Fire one off as soon as a reaper grabs you and they immediately let go...Never used the gas version.

I've not bothered with Torpedos for so long to how useless they are, that it took me a while to realize an important detail further putting a nail in their coffin.

You can only craft more torpedoes, at a vehichle upgrade station. Which can only be put in a moonpool.

Have fun ever reloading your torpedo launchers even if you WANT to use them, without a U turn back home or stopping to build a fresh moonpool.

Unless that little black hole from the vortex torpedo is sending them to an alternate universe I'm pretty sure that the smaller creatures sucked into it die when they disappear.

Even then they are clunky as they only detonate at a set distance or when hitting a wall, they can clip right through a creature and keep going. If they could be remote-detonated when desired they'd be much more useful.

Not in my experience, one grabbed me and I let loose two torpedos and he still didn't let go until I was down to 30% hull.

Wait until the monster has you in its grip and just before it brings you in for a bite, launch a gas torpedo into the beasts maw and it will drop you and swim off elsewhere for you to worry about. At least last time I tried. The creatures hide is too tough otherwise.

Have you ever scritched a cat on the side of its head? A properly aimed vortex gets you the same result with your friendly subnautica-dude chomping reaper...
