How do I use the scanner room?
I can't seem to manipulate the scanner room at all. I tried accessing it with a hatch, but it won't attach any where.

I now have many upgrades researched for the scanner room, but no way to use them.

The scanner doesn't show me anything but beacons, my first base, and my Seamoth.

I had cameras floating around from the Stalkers taking them, or whatever they are near my starting base. They hang out at the creepvines mostly, but they sure like my base. up to 5 of them circling my first base.

But the scanner didn't seem to show anything special like the description said.

I've avoided the wikis so I don't get any spoilers. But this could make things simpler if I could get it to work as intended.

That issue with scannners not having things on its list has been around a while.

It seems like its a loading issue. The game probably saves resources by not loading every single biome, creature or resource at the same time. If you are in one biome it only spawns creatures and resources in the biome, and at a certain range from you. If you explore around a bit then it loads more parts of that biome/cell. So if you just spawned or entered the game and you are in your base none of the resources in your area is scannable. But once you go around and discover a single piece of X then that X will turn up on your scanner now. One trick that i've heard people using is to drop certain items near your scanner room. Like for example you have 1 titanium salvage in your inventory but you need a bunch more. Your scanner room doesnt show any of it nearby. So you take your titanium salvage thats in your inventory and you drop it in the water. Now the scanner detects that one that you dropped and the game loads up/spawns or is able to scan all the other titanium salvage in the area.

TLDR if your scanning room isnt showing anything maybe go out and explore the area a bit to load more of that area in the game.

It has two attach points on the sides without cameras so you should be able to connect it to your habitat or place a hatch. It does need power to work though.

To make the upgrades there is a fabricator specifially for the upgrades inside the scanner room along with upgrade slots.

If you drop scrap metal away from your base the stalkers will prefer those and will stop stealing the cameras.

On the inside it will display a 3d image of the suroundings, you will also be able to control the cameras and search for resources. On the wall next to where the camera display is, is the resource search menue. The resource search will show where a resource you select is on the 3d map but you'll need a scanner room HUD chip to see the indicator out in the world.

I found it usually updating when I had a look around with camera drones, discovering new minable resource nodes. After that, the material would be added to the scanners list. That would give camera drones an actual purpose, if you think of it.

It seems that the problem mostly arises when the scanner reach is extended via an extension module and the newly accessed area contains previously unknown resources, like for example a minable lead or gold node.

You need to select stuff from the scanners list of available resources. The scanner room works like a filter or sort of radar system. The guys and me were just talking about how to extend the scanners list of materials. Just select a material that you need and give the scanner room some time to scan. I usually recommend to use 3 range extention modules and 1 speed boost module, especially when searching for fragments or big stuff. I was also able to discover some hidden stuff in the game with mentioned method, because it also shows you the terrain and caves.

Of course, you will not be able to see any of your scan if you didn't equip the HUD update chip before. That's probably the important part that you are missing. Apart from that it should work as intended.

That's my issue. I can't get inside the scanner room. It won't let me attach a hatch.

So how do I get inside the scanner room?

It automatically attaches to any existing base piece. It doesn't need its own hatch.

If you can't find a place where it will attach, you probably have stuff built inside that base piece already. Remove stuff from inside that piece or build a new, empty piece nearby.

I tried attaching it to another base when I built a second multipurpose room next to the moonpool and it made an a connections when I got it close enough. So I tried to do the same with the scanner on the other side of that MP room, but it wouldn't attach for me.

also, if attaches automatically, then why can't I add a hatch myself?

I'll try again at my new 3rd base with only a single MP room.

My first scanner was the very first thing I built with the habitat builder gun. I couldn't get anything attached to it. I built it first to give more more info. I didn't know how the other things worked ans I thought I need a habitat building first to work off of. I tried adding the scanner directly to my lifepod, after finding it wouldn't attach, I seen I could create it on its own.

Sounds like you're swimming to close to the room. Swim out a little then try, the hatch sticks out a bit from the room. There's a squarish section on either side, hatch goes there.

They attach on everything else just fine. I will try again.

You were right, I was too close. I move around a bit and it finally attached;

Good news, I found where my camera is located:

Bummer, I built another scanner room at my third base and it still won't attach itself to the MP room. I then built it a little bit always. I then tried adding a pipe to connect the scanner room to my base and it won't let me. I can build the pipe next to it though.

I then tried to attach a hatch and again, I go all around it and it won't attach. Grrrr.

Yeah, the placements are a bit wonky and really overcompensate for collisions with the enviroment. You may have to stack another MP room ontop and see about adding the scanner room then.

Also, you can move the cameras around with WASD.

I rebooted the pc and logged back in and the hatch is now attached to the scanner.

I guess it reset the graphics so it was attachable.

Now maybe I can attach the scan room with the MP room?
