This whole "Youtube gamer" thing is kind of gross. Who is Yahtzee and why do you want to watch him play games. Like it's not a big enough waste of time playing games in the first place...

I guess you're just too young to know what Zero Punctuation is. He's kind of an institution from back in the day. I guess you can watch his stuff on Hulu, if you're over 18. He swears. Me, I just use firefox on my desktop to watch his animated "reviews". I'm old that way.

I watch other people play games I like when I'm not able to play them myself (commuting, downtime at work, etc.). I don't think Youtube gaming is such a weird concept (but then again I'm a Youtube gamer so...).

Plus I've been a fan of ZeroPunctuation for like, a decade. He's an old-school gamer like me.

Not to mention, Youtube LP's are probably one of the best ways to research a game before deciding to buy it. They can also be very helpful once you've bought it and are figuring out what to do because they add a visual element that wikis and gaming forums don't have.

I didn't get it either but oddly enough I found out I enjoy having them in the background. Kind of like music. But of course you can do the same thing with any podcast which has the chance to be useful.

As for movies, I found out by accident one day I love listening to people watch scary movies. I find their reactions to be hilarious.

thats funny because youtube videos tell me nothing in research, they never do. the way i see it is that if you can't learn about it by doing it yourself? all you got is guess work and you have to view it from another persons point of view instead of your own which could easily change the experience from when you actually do it. youtube videos are like talking about doing something you never done before to a group of friends and then you say you have a good idea what it is and still have no idea, because you never actually experienced it.

in addition youtube videos you can never tell when something is actually skewed.

I suppose in that case you would need to find Youtubers you can trust. I know a lot of the more popular Youtubers cheat or skew their videos and some are notorious for doing so but there are a few Youtubers I trust to give me a good review of a game. One of them would be Paulsoaresjr. He got me hooked on Terraria before I even had it and that was the first Steam game I ever bought.

Movies aren't interactive. And watching a movie is no different than watching someone play a game. You are watching people do fictional things.
