why is there no map?
trying to explore but the biomes dont have easily defined borders and i am afraid to go anywhere in the open water because it could be next to the mountains or the crash pr the dunes. cant tell how close i am to those places, afraid to go past the red grass area thats opposite to the side of the life pod that faces the aroura because it gets a little open and barren (no grass) and i just cant tell if i am getting to close to the dunes/mountains aka Reaper area. with out a map, i tried to exploer the mushroom forest and ventured to close to the crash/mountains and a reaper popped out of no where and scared the absolute crud out of me.

it also dosent help that terrain pops in randomly, sometimes i will be moving and hit an invisible objest and suddenly a mountain or a shroom tree or a wreak appears right infront of me, even with max graphics, everying is unloaded untill its a few feet from you. because of this reapers will just suddenly appear infront or behind you suddenly before you even realize that your close to the reaper areas.

with out a map telling me if i am getting to clsoe to reaper zone along with the pop-in loading causing reapers and terrain to only appear once its right next to you, it also dosent help that reapers sound super far away until they are right next to you (its like 100 feet away= quite, 20 feet away= just as quite, 5 inches away= roar blasting in your ears) and it being programed to attack from behind.

a map may not fix the sound issuses or the poppin issues or the sneak attack jump scare ai issues, but it would REALLY help me avoid those areas and explore more safely and you wouldnt have to deal witht he jumpscare ai, pop-in, and bad sound distance warning if you are able to avoid the reapers entierly being able to tell where you are going. it could be made to where the map is made as you explore so you dont just know where everything is so you will still encounter to dunes and mountains but once you do and map it out, you could then know where not to go.

The game tries to get you to use various triangulation methods instead. There is no reason why you can't make your own map.

Mapping feature (ala Journey Map for Minecraft)? in maybe on roadmap.

not a pro map makers, making maps by triangulating cordnaties and north south east, and west isnt my forte.

Nexus mods has a map - there's also one that uses the Steam Overlay to give you a map that tracks the character's location. Use the Google to find them.

hope they add it, the reapers scare the crud out of me when i accidently enter the area and i only here a quite roar before 2 seconds later and the roar is suddenly sounding like it right next to me and then it pops into exisitence and sneak attacks me from behind.

I see the issues that you have, but there are ways to deal with this without a map
1. Take note of landmarks around a leviathan/wreck.
2. Pay very close attention to the sounds. (Especially how reapers and ghosts sound; they have very distinct noises from far away. Ghost sounds like someone hacking up phlegm from far away, and reaper is like a high-pitched lions' roar.)
3. If you notice one nearby, you can circle-strafe them and escape.
4. Always keep a stasis rifle/repulsion cannon on you if you get caught.
5. Pay really close attention to what you see. Any unusual movement from far away, no matter the color, is likely a leviathan. They actually spawn extremely far away, farther than terrain 2 out of three times.

dont like using mods on a vanilla game. if your going to mod for a map then you might as well mod to make them not grab you or not attack you at all.

1. the land is barren in reaper territory, the only signifiers like wreaks is after yuo are already very deep into it, thing is that the area close to the underwater islands is barren and so is the area seperating the grand reef from the red grass area, cant tell if i and close the the grand reef, underwater mountains, map edge (aka void) or reapers zones.
2.the sounds are messed up they wil always sound far wawy untill they are a few feet from you.
3. they appear suddenly, by the time they make a sound, they are already super close and usally grab you before you even have time to realize.

5. rarely do you see them, they normally sound quite before suddenly sounding very close and before you even react, they are grabbing you from behind. they like to appear from behind you or from the sides or from above and if you actually do see it then you are more then likely surround by many of them because after seeing one another one ends up attacking from behind.

You still have to get away from a location whenever you hear a leviathan.

I'm sure the devs just totally didn't think to add that feature.

You can place a large amount of beacons, name each and every one individually and change their coloring.

I placed red colored beacons as markers where i heard reapers. I also used outpots with sensor rooms and the cameras to scout the area ahead before physically moving into them.

I really don't see the need for a map. Sensor room with hud uplink can help you find resources you need. Sensor room with range uplink give you an idea of the topography.. even though it doesn't show a few things.

And placement of beacons, which are cheap to produce, help keeping track in a 3 dimensional space.

I find using beacons much more fitting to the type of game, especially since you are moving in 3 dimensions.

no complaing, just not going to mod the game, if i mod the game it usally eats at me from the inside because it feels like cheating (using codes or changing the coding) and i normally end up having to wipe and start a new save to stop feeling like a cheater.

I might be misinterpreting your words here, but wouldn't you want to set your graphics to minimal settings in order to ensure that things render more quickly?
