What is the long term goal of the game?
I am wondering because I don't like games like Minecraft where there is nothing to strive towards. Yes I can build a huge base and survive the weak enemies but then I get bored because the game is aimless. Is this game different? I have the same issue with Factorio. I can mass produce everything quickly but there is no challenge and nothing to work towards.

Well, you are stranded on a planet and your goal is basically to find a way back home and off the planet. That's it in a nutshell.

Like the other guy said, unlike most survival games this one does have an end goal and an ending. I'm not sure why you had a problem with Factorio though when that game does indeed have the end goal of building the rocket.
Have fun playing ;)

makes no sense at all. you need hours to build a rocket.

SPOILERS:

You need to explore, collect Alien data, repair the Aurora engines, collect colored artifacts, unlock the important areas, hatch the babies, collect their cure, shut down the Enforcement Platform, build a rocket, escape the planet.

Along the way you will end up crafting some vehicles and at least one base for yourself. Interestingly, you do NOT need to witness the Sunbeam event up close. You can be exploring elsewhere.

But the game doesn't end anymore when you launch a rocket. You are supposed to launch lots of rockets and it isn't really a goal. It just keeps going. And making the rockets isn't very hard or fun imo. They needed to have more of a survival aspect.

Uhh, you can't repair the engines of the aurora... Do you mean the drive core? With the bleeders are breaches.

Drive core. yeah, that was it.
