*SPOILER* An alternate ending?
Suppose you stop receiving radio messages therefore the Sunbeam arrival trigger remains inactive. Nothing stops you from progressing further on though, eventually reaching the Sea Emperor, getting the cure, disabling Quarantine Gun and only THEN reading the Sunbeam transmission to trigger its arrival.
Anyone willing to experiment on that?

The Sunbeam sees the debris field and leaves. That's what happens if you don't go to the beach on the countdown ending.

Yes but what if you don't activate countdown itself before getting the cure?

Before, the gun would glitch-fire, despite being off. In the full game, no idea

I did it in the full game, still glitches and fires anyways, the sunbeam is taken down regardless you disable the gun or not

I did this recently, and the gun still glitch-fires.

1) Get cured before using the radio so you don't trigger the Sunbeam event
2) Don't disable the gun yet
3) Wait for the countdown to start, THEN disable the gun
4) Gun glitch-fires and shoots down the Sunbeam anyway, bummer :(
