So... Saving Sunbeam? [Spoiler question]
I know I can't catch a ride but I just don't want to see it blow up.

I've started a new game and so far haven't listened to the Radio once.
Is that how I do it?

Keep away from the radio and don't touch it till I cure myself and turn off the weapon?

Pretty much. If you get off the planet before it ever comes down, it doesn't die.

Anything less and there will be fireworks.
Oh also.... how do I unlock the Multipurpose room?
I thought that was linked to the Radio stuff.

Right now I have a Habitat Builder gun but no Multipurpose room.

Stop listening after you hear the pilot say they're "looking for a parking spot".

Next one after that will start the countdown.
You unlock the multipurpose room by finding and scanning one. There are several bases on the map where you can find them.

The story will advance only when you find a new bit of it, which can be done in any order depending on when you find any bit of it.
Even if you don't have the radio lead you to a place, it will still remain out in the world for you to find the same as if you had followed anything to get there.

The main purpose of the radio is not (with the obvious exception of the sunbeam itself :steammocking:) to advance the story, so much as it is to just try and get you out into the world. After which it just packs it in and doesn't make a peep for the rest of the game.

So....In a sense you could say that you're dumping it before it can dump you.


Single best pieces of davice for any new player is such;
Scan EVERYTHING (yes, all caps)!!!
Remeber to breathe.

The multipurpose room is on the floating island
I think there's a way to make them say that they can't land, but will tell Alterra about you, but I think it's very glitchy and involves deactivating the gun at a certain time.
^That was in the game for a hot minute during early access but was removed before launch.

Right now a mod team is working on a mod that will allow the Sunbeam to land if you deactivate the gun.

Why anybody would want to leave the planet 25% of the way through the story is beyond me.

Huh, that's strange. I swear I did it and I never owned the game before the full release.
It's possible it was in the initial release then removed - was awhile ago, my memory's a bit fuzzy.

Bottom line tho, not possible now.
the radio messages are very well done. If you dont listen to it your missing out but you can find all the sunken life pods by yourself. You will probably find most without hints from the distress calls anyways.

Still: i strongly advise listening to all distress calls. Its not that many and its very entertaining.

btw: you might wanne head towards the floating island ( big pile of clouds hovering over the water; on the right when facing the aurora )
Listen to the distress calls on the radio until you receive the" I'm sorry I didn't know".... from the Sunberam.
Then leave the radio alone for about one to two hours.
Then go back to the radio.
You'll get all the distress calls up to lifepod 2.
There should only be one message remaining, from the Sunbeam, and it'll set the time sequence for the Sunbeam landing.
I've had this happen on the last two playthroughs.
