Tempting fate here but I never met the grand reef ghost leviathans
Sooo where are they located at? I usually hightail from the sparse reef to the floating island at around 0 ~ 50 metres depth.

There's two fully-grown ghost Leviathans in the grand reef, one is above a trench entrance to the deepgrand, and one is near a massive rock structure in a sea tear trail.

Two?! I only saw one.
They're on opposite sides of the grand reef, so one's near the crag field, and one's near the Sea Treader's path.
Edit: on the Subnautica wiki, there's a map that shows Leviathan locations and patrol areas if you want to know the places to avoid.

Great..I saw the latter, but not the former.

Another thing from the wiki: there are coordinates for these guys at their initial spawns, and Ghosts are harder to find because they have a larger patrol area.

Who needs Search when kwong will use Search for you and repost the stuff already posted in another thread on this topic? :steamhappy:

Aww, come on, don't be sarcastic.. Didn't we learn that this is unhealthy for others ? :D

Kwong20287 is the newesst forum search bot.. the 20286 previous models just short-circuited because they felt so under appreciated. :D

But my actual comment would have been:
in Sovjet Subnautica you don't search for ghost leviathan, ghost leviathan searches for you

Man, I feel lucky. I went around between the craig and grand reefs to hunt lithium and never met it.

Seriously - who goes looking for that nightmare fuel?!?
DVN Dec 20, 2017 @ 2:27pm
The point is to know which area I should avoid

The one in the GR is juvenile and not fully grown. The fully grown Ghost Leviathans are in the void.

It may be hard to know where to look for a ghostie when you don't know what sounds they make or what to look for. In every single Grand Reef encounter, they snuck up on my until I learned to recognize them by their sounds. For some reason the ghosties in the Void are more difficult to find until they find you. Must be part of the reason they live there.

Except that would be false information, there are BOTH Juveniles and Adults in the playable area the one in the Grand Reef is an Adult, the ones out in the void are bigger versions of the Adults.

The Juveniles are the ones found inside the Lost River.

@emanulez:

A 2017 necro, dude? Really? To say, in effect, "Yeah, I've seen these things that have been well-known in the game for 6+ years, too."

Really?

Thanks for the clarification.

I've encountered the Lost River Ghosts. Just thinking about my encounter with the GR one was creapy enough to still give me PTSD Thalasaphobia inducing chills even thinking about it.

The thought there are even bigger Ghosts out in the Abyssal Void was truly unsettling.

Well both entries for the PDA for each one pretty much say this "the growth of these leviathans appears to be remarkable (which is likely just another word for rapid) and doesn't show any signs of stopping" meaning the ones in the Void aren't even the biggest ones out there because there's probably bigger ones further out that the ones that are close to the Crater's Edge are even afraid of chasing you that far out.
