So I put in the code in the right place and I still have no idea where it is. Is it something you build or find? Or does it get put into your inventory? Also, I tried putting the code in again agter that and I get the "key invalid (error A)"

You need to put in the code in-game. There's a "redeem code" option on the menu. You'll need to put the entire code, including the dashes.

After the code is redeemed, you can build it in game with the habitat builder.

it was a limited time limited use code you can't get one anymore i got stuck on console because of a fried computer when the code came out i don't have one either trust me you'll get over the loss eventually

Something got broken either by Steam or UWE in December or so and it still has not been fixed.
