I have an outdoor grower bed full of the coral because I like to plant them in remote places I might return to for instant oxygen. That was actually Zemecton's idea that I stole.
The bigger reason to have stalkers more than the titanium they fetch is the stalker teeth for enameled glass.

You also do not want to plant Acid Mushrooms as an errant knife-swing could blow up the whole tank.
Stick with the pretty coral fans and smaller (harmless) plants. I put my Creepvines and Blood Kelp in exterior grow beds.
Cougarific, I find the eyestalks give off the best light of all the plants. It's more "white" than the other ones. I hope we can eventually turn the lights on and off the base like we can in the cyclops.

I can't harvest pieces of either the crash plant or the pink mushroom to plant in the aquarium. So, I just have a crash and crabsnake swimming around aimlessly.
The tank comes with a warning saying that it's good for observing species, but be careful b/c something may be observing you back. I thought perhaps one of the specimens you can grow in it may act as a spy, but that may be in a later update.
The wiki says if you put an infected creature in the tank then it ends up infecting the rest of your creatures over time.
Overall, I just use the tank to breed fish and fuel for bioreactor, and use outside grow beds to grow creepvine (for seed pods) and blood kelp (for blood oil).
One one map I had (older game), I created a base with 3 "silos".... and I made the center silo a massive 6 story aquatic park for creatures. I put an entrance on the bottom and an entrance on the top, so instead of going up/down ladders to go up down the 6 stories, I'd just jump into the tank and swim up down to where I needed to go. That's probably an over-elaborate way of getting around, but it was interesting.
I was able to grab a sample of a jelly mushroom and grow it in the tank, but it doesn't get big enough for the crab snake to do anything with it. like you, I haven't been able to get the crashfish nest.
