Recommend you stay on or near the surface as you travel - graphical glitches like the two dots floating in the sky (and the glitch that reveals faraway stuff if you're only semi-submerged) will keep you on the right path.
This image (not my screenshot) gives you an idea of where it is in relation to the Aurora:

Gila, when you get to the island, scan everything you come across. There are three bases. One at the base of the island, and then two others at each peak. Aside from the blueprints you pick up, make sure to grab at least one marblemelon plant, then plant it in an interior growbed when you get back. Marblemelon is the game's "superfood" with the best combination of food/water in the game. After I've build a Cyclops I'll build an interior grow bed filled with this stuff, and I never have to worry about food or hydration regardless of how long I'm gone.
Also many players don't seem to know that there's multiple farms on Floating Island, so marblemelon and chinese potato aren't that rare.

You also don't need to carry a whole marblemellon, use knife to turn one into seeds which are 1x1 while a marblemelon is 2x2. Or take a couple small marblemelons, plant them in pots when you get home and then knife them for 4 seeds each.
Not that big of a deal, BUT let's say you drove your Seamoth to the Mountain Island then took the portal to the Island - now you've got a REALLY long swim back to your Seamoth. If you're gonna use the portal I advise leaving your Seamoth at your lifepod and swimming to the Mountain Island, so the Seamoth is that much closer when you return from the Island.
Its south of the crash, southwest of your POD
i've always just used that to get there.
it's a subtle difference between this and the actual skyy texture so it's relatively easy to miss.
