I like the idea. Would be good addition to a DLC package.
I'd take it a bit further and say you have to launch a few GPS satellites in different areas or something so it can ping your location etc. Then you could have a map on the PDA that's connected to it....
So much YES on this one.

You'd think being in the middle of nowhere, not to mention the other technologies available at their disposal, the Aurora would've come equipped with at least very rudimentary mapping capabilities. It's just so completely out of sync with the rest of their skillset.
So being able to fabricate base modules from raw titanium pieces you get, but mapping caves, no, that'd be too difficult? :\
I suppose the easyest would be a drone with a camera, that follows you and has ocean penetrating radar that maps whats beneath the water.
