Loud howling(kinda whistling sound too?), but it doesnt sound anything like the sea dragon, reaper, or ghost leviathan sounds AT ALL.
As I mentioned in the Title, very loud howling, I listened to the sounds of the other creatures on youtube to compare but none of them are the same. It happened after going into the deep grand reef for the first time, and coming back to my base and listening to the message you get for going there. After that message I am hearing constant (5-7 seconds) loud howling. Is this a bug? Or is this scripted? (My base is between safe shallows you start in and a kelp forest... no levithan spawns around the area)

I also want to add that at the very end of one of its roars, it sounds like wind (More to work with)

It is either a warper or a Ghost Leviathan by the sound of it.
Barkas Sep 29, 2017 @ 6:47am
The thing is I am nowhere near where they spawn? The closest place where a warper spawns is 800m away, and its far too loud and breathy for it to be a warper.

Have you checked all around your base to see if a creature like a stalker or sand/bone shark is stuck on the superstructure somewhere? Their AI can sometimes goof and cause them to sit with their nose in a wall. (The noise you describe kinda sounds like a bone shark to me.)

Alternatively, do you have an alien containment? Might an egg that you left in there have hatched while you were away, and the creature is now making noise from inside?

I have 5 eggs hatched in it, ampeel, jellyray, crabsnake, bone shark, and stalker. Ive had the crabsnake, bone, stalker, for a long time, recently added jelly and amp like 4 hours ago, but the noise just started after I listened to the alien message you get after going to the grand deep reef. When I played it I went outside to grab stuff from cyclops. (Might be a bug from doing that idk, but I think not)
I would also like to add the fact that in my cyclops the sonar is saying there is a triangle / hostile target and it usually focus' around the area and depth I have my containment. I even checked under the ground using freecam. I think it might be the ampeel, but the noise sounds too loud, and big to be coming from that.

This is the second post I've seen about a strange unidentified sounding like howling, whistling, and cybernetic noise. Interesting.
Phaota Sep 29, 2017 @ 4:10pm
It's the now defunct sound of the Seamoth/Exosuit docking noise in the moon pool. It took awhile for Simon to get rid of it in Experimental, but you don't hear it anymore. Next update will clear this issue up in Stable.

Im on stable for one, and I do hear loud annoying noises when I build / dock my seamoth in a moonpool, and I understand thats a bug, but What I am hearing sounds nothing like the build / docking bug noises. And @deadlydialga It is for sure howling / whistling, but not cybernetic (that would probably be the warpers) I'll try recording something with OBS and uploading it.

I know which sound you are referring to. I used to hear it in one of my older playthroughs when I had my Cyclops in the Deep Grand Reef and I would reload my game inside it. Like Phaota said, it has to do with submersible docking. I personally think it has more to do with something being docked in the Cyclops but then I am not sure of that. But it wasn't like any creature sound I've heard so far when I heard it.

It disappeared when I reloaded, if I can ever get the noise to appear again I will record it... might even go make a new game and spawn a sub to quickly test this.

It's the Jellyrays I think, They make an annoying shriek that can travel quite far. If you are near a mushroom forest that could be it.

Found this thread trying to figure out why something was shrieking incessantly in/around my base in the Safe Shallows. After searching for a few minutes and then emptying my Alien Containment tank one-by-one to try to isolate the offender (to no avail), I saved/reloaded and it went away; must have just been a bug.

Yea save and loading fixed it but its a really scary sound that sounds like it gets closer / louder each scream lol

This has happened to me too, the sound is coming from the alien containment room (I have headphones on and have tested from all sides of the room with the left and right headphone outputs). For me it started after one of those annoying angry exploding red chaser fish things went for me, and blew up right next to the walls of the base where the alien containment is.

Sounds like a bug to me.

When I'm inside the base, the sound appears to be coming from everywhere. When I'm outside the base, it comes from the part where the alien containment is.

Hello all. After 7 long years i may have a solution. After experiencing the same as all of you, i searched for a resolution and it has led me here. I was hearing the same roaring/hissing sound. It came from outside when i was in my base and inside the alien containment room when i was outside. After sweeping the parameter for any unwanted creatures, i wanted to pin down the source. I even started recording in order to understand better. I found that the noise was generated by the crabsnake that I had in containment, and when i had it in my inventory, the noise would come from everywhere. This kinda freaked me out when i realised it was the crabsnake. I honestly thought it was the Ampeel that was in containment but apparently not. I have no idea why it suddenly started making noise. My theory is that it was caused when i shocked my base (and all of the creatures in the alien containment) with the Seamoth perimeter defence system because the noise only started after i did that. I will see if i can attach the video i recorded in a later Post. I hope this brings closure to you all :steamhappy:.
