where do i place the alien containment?

Place it in a multi-purpose room. If you stack another room above or beneath it, you can build another alien containment chamber directly on top of it for an even taller tank.

Ive taken to placeing a base as close to, yet not breaking the surface with liveable rooms (that water line in the base bugs me ALMOST as much as high gas prices) Anyway, if done right, the eventual moonpool and maybe firt multipurpose room will break surface slightly, permitting awsome solar-powerization, while said multi room is over deeper water, permiting a 2nd room to be built underneath, a 3rd if you have room, but I find a 2 tier alien containment to be quite sufficient.

Except the OP is asking where to place the alien containment, not where to build a base to house an alien containment...
