Dig but not Grab? Drill and Grapple remove the pick up ability of PRAWN??
So I am slowly moving into the stage of using the PRAWN to collect Sulfar and stuff from the Lost River and its Acid...Water?... Any how...And was using the Drill and Grapple to do so.

Dig up my first much need Copper Lode and realize that not only is it NOT just going into my storage which I assumed it would (which is fine), I am also unable to even pick it up with thr drill arm after I break it up (which kind of isnt fine), same for the Grapple which I figured MIGHT still work the same.

So unless there is some kind of grav trap like Upgrade that I just am missing that allow me to vac up stuff I drill... Is this really how it suppose to work? I mean some these Lodes you can drill are in odd enough places as is, or in the Lost river Area prone to possible going into the acid too deep to pick up by human hand and not get damaged (unless the reforced suit which I don;t yet have prevent that).

So Yeh.... Am I just missing something or is this really the deal O.o

If you find something you want to drill and you're not hanging from the side of a cliff you could always just jump out and remove the grapple untill it's time to be off again.

Otherwise there is the gravsphere (so yes, a grav trap). Put it near by and let it collect the stuff as you drill it. Just keep in mind that it will also grab anything swimming near by and if their big enough or there are just enough off them they will, slowly, pull it behind them as they try to get away.

Personally the first ones a lot easier.

That is kind of tedious either way, in a way I didn't think they make it after giving you the power to finally drill up stuff in large quanities with a machine with a built in storage JUST for mining it seems

:/

It’s a drill arm...I’m not sure why you would assume that a drill arm would just pick up things. It has no kind of “grabby appendages”.

You have the choice to switch out the arms. Having the items you drill magically appear in your storage is asking a bit too much. It isn’t tedious to exit the prawn for a second to grab your goods.

Cause its an arm and the drill itself does have a hand like shape being a Drill based on real deep sea drills which can indeed grab and pull things they drill into... thats how they drill for oil so deep the drills are made to pull the rubble up and out.

Plus its a game so having the drill collect what its drilling would be a pretty common game thing and does as I said remove the tedious nature of having to hand collect the mats that break of the Lode Stones and hope they don't bounce and fly off.

Plus even if the drill arm doesnt the Grapple really SHOULD, since where the drill really only used for farming you really do need thr Grapple it seems even with the jump upgrade to really be able to move around in the prawn in some areas.

I disagree on all points. It’s not difficult or tedious to hop out and grab your resources.

The only time it would become difficult is when you are drilling on some kind of precipice and even then you should be using the gravity sphere.

It’s the “give an inch take the foot scenario”, you already have an arm that can grab drilled resources. The other arms shouldn’t be expected to do the same imo.

You can always leave your second arm slot empty. The claw arm can pick things up and put them in your P.R.A.W.N.'s inventory without you having to get out and do anything.

The Prawn is designed with an ideal situation in mind. The ideal situation is the Aurora safe, landed and with all the crew alive, with multiple Prawns at work togheter, some equipped to drill while others to gather the drilled resources. The player is not in such ideal situation, he is alone and has to do all by himself, so imho to hop out to grab resources or to switch the arms simply reflect the downsides of his situation.

Like I said was more just surprised then anything and again its the fact that for some mat Lodes your in places like the Lost river were it falls into places grabbing it by Hand outside the suit can be harmful when it falls into the green acid stuff that makes it Tedious, or trying to collect it from off the side a mountain like some lodes are placed where you HAVE to use both grapple and Drill to do so.

Though really if I had any say in the game I'd if nothing else make some kind of Prawn upgrade that allow it to suck up lose mats you drill off a Lode.

It's brine - super-salty seawater.

Lost River has brine lakes which are highly radioactive, don't go near them. on the other hand LR is full of resources. the last time i did some resource gathering in that location i used a prawn to drill for resources, but several of them lfy upwards and end up in the brine lakes making it impossible to get at them. it's just where some of these deposits spawn makes it very tricky to get the resources without them all tumbling into the lakes before you can get out and pick them all up.

(Well, the brine is not actually radioactive, just highly corrosive)

why is there something that sounds like radioactive meter going off when you go near it?
Cougarific Dec 6, 2017 @ 10:01am
Is there a radiation alert? Are you taking damage without a rad suit? (those are genuine questions I haven't been down there in a while - not since they added that sound effect)

I've been having good experiences using grav traps in conjunction with the drill arm - just use 1 nearby (because 2 grav traps close together will lock onto the same items), and if there's fauna around getting in the way, set another up just outside its distance to trap fauna and use the repulsion gun to shoot away anything you don't want that gets trapped in the near one. 1 grav trap will hold all or most of a drillable node's resources. Repulsion gun I usually have on me, and I store the 2 grav traps I use in the prawn when I'm not drilling.

I do agree that an integrated solution would be a lot better - also please add the ability to turn quartz into glass (and other things) in bulk to make the game less tedious.

I don't know if I take damage with a radiation suit, but I know I definitely take damage without one down there (didn't know it was radiation - don't remember hearing an alert).

It could just be an audio warning to alert players to the fact that it's dangerous, even if it's not actually radioactive.
