How to place ladders?
Sorry if this is a dumb question but in previous builds of the game I was able to place a multi purpose room on top of another and connect them with a ladder from the inside. This doesn't seem to work for me anymore so... how do I use ladders?

Point at the hatch or under it to place it.

Are you having trouble placing the room or the ladder?

Multipurpose rooms are currently bugged in a way that prevents "stacking" construction as long as there's anything (and I mean ANYTHING; not so much as a locker or plant pot) built inside the room it's attaching to. I don't even think you can get away with windows. You can only "stack" completely empty, vanilla, unmodified and empty Multipurpose Rooms at the moment.

If you're having trouble with the ladders themselves, I often find I can't place one in a perfectly legitimate place, but only from one side. If you go into the other compartment and try to build it from the other end, that often works.

Yes, try turning the ladder with the "[" and "]" keys... 8-)

Pretty sure you can't rotate ladders. At least, you never could before. 90% probability this is a low-intensity troll, grade "Cheeky". Still not strictly Cricket.

Wait. Wait.

You can finally rotate ladders!?

Holy **** this is such a big deal.

*Patches up and launches experimental*

*tearfully hammers [ and ] keys while spinning mouse wheel* Noooooo. Why god, why?

Like I seriously patched up to check before Oro posted.

Why am I always optimistic about the devs having fixed stuff at the worst times, not just restricted to subnautica.

It's an odd blind spot for a guy that spends so much time digging through obvious bugs and implementation issues. "Broken. Broken worse than previously. Odd balance choice. OOOH somebody said that thing that bugs me works right now! oh boy oh boy oh boy....welp!"

As in, those vertical tubes for ladders?

They only work for hallway sections (bottom only, for glass ones). However many tubes you stack, you only need to build one ladder for them once you are inside though.

Though if they are already only one floor above/below eachother like you'd be trying to stack rooms, you don't need the tubes.

You can't use them to attach Multupurpose rooms or anything.

I am pretty sure I did move a ladder around before constructing it, a few versions back at least. It would not turn to all positions, but it did rotate some. Not sure if it was those keys, though.

It was in the center of a cross section with a vertical tube above it, going to a cylinder section above the water. One ladder seems to reach more than one section high, if cylinders are connected end-to-end. The habitat is still there, but that doesn't guarantee that a new game start would allow it.

I will check when I am back in-game. It doesn't seem to matter which way it is, though, except it gets in the way when walking past.

Hey Ham Clamp, I was hoping to find the answer to the same issue here after struggling myself finding why I couldn't place a ladder to one specific multipurpose room in a stack of a bunch of them.

After deconstructing everything piece by piece in and around the room I found one reinforcement panel blueprint on the concerned MP. Once I removed it I could place the ladder.

Basically, on a room, you are not allowed to have more than one item under construction at the same time that may affect integrity. Examples are ladders, windows, reinforcement panels or connections. They must be either completely removed or built completely before being able to carry on to the next one.

Maybe that'll help anyone bumping on this post

I tried deconstructing that same ladder, and construct it back. It constructed ok, but it would not turn. So there was a version change a while back, I guess. Good catch. 8-)
