So im told to stay about 10km away from the Aurora.

Before the Auroras reactor blows one of the warnings is to stay 10km away from the ship, but yet the pod feels a lot closer than 10km, yet nothing happens when the fireworks go off. Perhaps that could be an objective, to get 10km away from the ship before it explodes or risk getting irradiated.
Forget the objective 10 km is 10,000 meters away, travel that far and even the Ghost Leviathan will get bored chasing you.

I think the pov has a LOT to do with it, if you go into third person, you realise how massive everything really is, and the meters may have been changed for gameplay reasons, but outside of the for some reason minaturized first person, the scale of things is much more immense

"Please travel farther than the game map exists" doesn't sound good. But then saying "Please only travel a short distance" doesn't sound as dramatic either.

That the PDA gives you instructions you can't possibly comply with is part of the humour. It's just as intentional as the comments about your bill to Alterra. The first thing it said in previous iterations of the game included "great job not dying" and it gives you hilariously inappropriate information about your exercise habits. You should be keeping that in mind at all times.

It's a product of a dystopian future where companies rule instead of nations and the employee's safety is often an afterthought. This is a fictional company that only had one fully functional lifepod out of 17, and even lifepod 5 has major issues.

10km is probably the absolute safe distance where you can't get hurt no matter what. plus, the ship didn't suffer a complete meltdown so i imagine the explosion we got was 1/10th the explosion it could have been.

not so distant future seeing as in the US we now have a supreme court justice who sided with a company that fired a guy for leaving his truck when he would have died if he hadn't.

the lifepods all probably worked fine as we saw at the beginning of the game, they just aren't that durable and they took damage from the ship being shot down and some were ripped open by the locals

well the audio use to say 1km but the on screen write up says 10km, i thought it was a typo mistake, but after the latest update, the audio says 10km now. i know its strange,

I am not certain of this but you start getting radio locators to other lifepods later on and the one with the radiation suit is I think in the radiation zone...the irony of that is part of the game's dark humour.

not only that, but i beleive the pda for that one is a recored of someone not being able to dress themselves
