water filter infinite power
so what I saw there is this bug where 4 thermal power gens and 12 solar can not power one water filter machine.
Is this a new thing.

Can't speak for experimental, but on stable my main base has 3 thermal, 1 bio and 8 solar, and it powers a filtration machine ok along with a couple of rechargers and crafting equipment, plus 2 moonpools.

The water filter has always been one of the most notoriously drainy things in the game, even when it's not bugging out.

Though the real benefit of the filtration machine? The SALT, which it will eventually make 3 of at a time.

Filtration machine takes about 15 minutes and more power than most of your base combined need to make a single +50 water bottle.

Bleach and next to no energy fabricates a +40 water bottle. And salt is used with coral to craft bleach. As well as letting you us it to salt fish for travel foods. (When not simply farm raising bladderfish to turn into +20 bottles, using the stillsuit for +20 water bottles, etc).

Honestly just leave the water bottle in there, it will take up less power that way between making you more salt so you don't have to jump out of your prawn suit to collect it out of the dirt.

I have to agree that it's actually pretty hard to get a well balanced energy system when the water filtration gets involved, BUT it can be done.
My base actually have two water filtrators and my energy value is always at 85 to 95% (of maximum capacity)

I think the waterfiltrators are SCRIPTED to make it hard(er) to use than other devices.
You (seem to) have to combine different types of energy sources AND locations to get a stable energy income.

At first i planted 2 thermal plants at a hot spot and used energy transmitters:
nearly enough to supply one water filter
Added a thrid one and what happend: no increase. (by logic/mathematic it must have worked)

so i added solar panels+one thermal plant above the water surface (energy transmitters used again) and added also 2 extra thermal plants to the hot area and it worked.

All the work took me like two hours, but hell year since the second water filter is also in use i have plenty of water and don't have to care about it anylonger.
Was worth it.

My newest base has just 6 solar collectors, and it holds up almost all night with a water processor. I think it would hold all night with one or two more (at the surface, on long risers).

I think the water processors are supposed to be distillers, and that takes a lot of power and produces pure water and salt.

If under powered, then just leave the last set of water bottles and salt in the machine at night. It will stop using power if it is full. Then get them in the morning when the arrays charge up their storage, and it will start again.

Hmm in Stable Build, 1x Bio, 1x Thermal(in 30c water), 8x Solar seem to power my base with 2x Flood lights, 1ea Battery and Cell charger, 1 Water Filtration and 2 Moonpools just fine while the Filtration unit is working. It's all about building up stored capacity before loading the whole system.

There was a bug one experimental build where solar (& possibly other) power would only hold 2/xxx power no matter what. So the filtration system kept draining the available power no matter how fast it would come in since the filtration system ticked large enough to drain the tiny pool of power available.
I'm pretty sure that's since been fixed.

There definitely seems to be a bug with the Filtration Systems at the moment in Experimental.

I have 5 Thermal Power Generators pretty much ontop of lava in the Active Lava Zone, generating the maximum possible amount of power due to the heat and the base cannot power 2 Filtration Systems. Its staying at 0/500 and fluctuating wildly, increasing up to 10,20,30 or something and back to 0 constantly.

Both Filtration Systems are full with ready Water and Salt too.

Did you build a spotlight?

It is strange, that the little spotlight seems to take a lot more power than the big floodlights on the Cyclops...? 8-)

Spotlights on bases have long been known to be bugged in their power drain.

True, that. But it's still a strange bug...

no i just saw this happen don't have the game, the person playing the game made another base with one thermal power plant powering a multi-dome with 4 water filters afer 30 min they had all of them filled so it gets around the problem.:steamhappy:
I will gave to do that when i get the game.

The Water Filtration Machine will use 51 power units/minute during its production cycle (23 min 20 sec) So it will consume @ 800 power units within 23 minutes for one full cycle then stop until you remove the water and/or salt. It only runs while one or both slots are empty. Note: 15 min 20 sec for Water, 7 min 20 sec for Salt.
