Step one, figure out where they are.
Step two, plan to try not to go near those places when you next try to get there.
Step three, pray it works this time.
Step four, pray harder.

If you need to Get to the Aurora You need to make sure it exploded so the front entrance is there. Then just be aware of your surroundings.

I just zip past them with the seaglide, rarely get attacked if, when you see o e, you jog back and forth changing your direction. If you're just swimming then hug the side of the Aurora.

Take a detour....stay away from the right side of the Aurora. I usually head staright for the sand banks to the Auroras left side and hug the hull until i get to the destroyed front section. Dont go too deep and keep looking around for them. If you run into one keep it in your view and keep your distance. Ive lost a few Seamoths due to the fact that i get overly confident and then all off a sudden one grabs me and i poop myself.

Some if not all the leviathan preset spawn locations are randomly chosen at game start to either have a leviathan or not. In my current game there are only two leviathans around the Aurora, one in the very back and one deep down in the very front. I have none that spawn near the sides at all. So I can safely go all around the Aurora except for the very back, and I am cautious around the front that the one there doesn't come up from the depths.

So if you want a better leviathan spawn selection you may want to start a new game a few times until you find one that does not spawn so many of them around the Aurora.

I don't wanna spoil things by giving you specifics, OP, but the bottom line is that, like many video game mobs (and, fortunately for realism, some IRL predators), they're "territorial". They stick around a specific spot, often not super-huge depending on how open the area is.

You may have a few ugly encounters figuring out where these are. My advice is to use a Seamoth (not the Seaglide; you will die), and RUN AT THE FIRST ROAR.

Some helpful "wisdom" about Reapers:

If you can hear the roar, it knows you're there and is coming for you. When you STOP hearing the roar, it's right behind you.

They tend to avoid the surface. This is not 100% foolproof, but a rule of thumb. You're safer at 10m than you are at 100m.

If you know one is nearby, stay well away from rocks, cliff faces, and the sea floor UNLESS it's very shallow water in the first place (75m or shallower), or you are already actively fleeing an attack (see below). Reapers are buggy and clip through terrain to strike at you from inside it without warning.

Even an unmodified Seamoth can survive one (usually only one, but sometimes up to 2) grapples from a Reaper. The instant it lets you go, start running, and try to put terrain (including creepvine) between you and it ASAP. It's faster than your Seamoth in a straight line, but less maneuverable. Later on, you can get hull upgrades that reduce his damage, and a Perimeter Defense module that shocks him into letting you go immediately, before he does hardly any damage at all. It's still terrifying though, even at the 100th time. It just doesn't get old.

As far as the Aurora goes, there are 3 of them right next to it, and there are paths to the ship between them where they almost never appear. As you discovered, hugging the port side of the ship is NOT one of those paths. One of the biggest openings in their patrol is near the front where the entrance is. You have to get out and go up the "ramps" that come down into the water, then find your way inside from there. If you find a door you can't get through, keep looking for another. They're not right down by the water.

Good luck!

To answer your question quickly, stay at the surface and you'll be fine.

As I mentioned, the one on the port side (left side, west side) does not always spawn when you start a new game. The other two maybe set to always spawn but I can't be sure of that.

i actually outran a reaper once when i was by the back of the aurora because he glitched when he first saw me and went inside of me twice it scared the crap out of me and i yelled JESUS F##K at the top of my lungs
PotatoPounder Jul 20, 2017 @ 10:44am
i was using only a seaglide thats why i was there looking for seamoth parts because i forgot there were two reapers in the new update
BlackWater Jul 20, 2017 @ 10:46am
First I stasis-ed rifle'd it, gave it a scan, then launched a crashfish into him, he swam away and burrowed into the ground never to be seen again.

This thread made me smile. I'm 35 hours into my first game and haven't been been attacked by a reaper in a seamoth or on a seaglider (I have been attacked in a Cyclops). I did have a "oh ****, run for my life" moment though.

To answer the OP, I was always able to make it safely to the aurora with regular swimming, seaglider, and seamoth by hugging the left side (port) of the ship and staying near the surface (your forced to due to sand).

I could hear the reaper's roar, but it never came for me.

Isn't the reaper there as part of the story? Seem to recall a pda entry about it from an upside-down lifepod in the area. Just curious as people have mentioned different spawn locations.
