Keep in mind that the blood vomit triggers from chowing down on the same object several times in short order. Which is mostly seen when trying to top up your bars with fruit, as fish+bottles lets you top up both meters before kicking that in.
You CAN try for self sufficient Cyclops. But basically only do it just to say that you did.
If you are going to drive over to singular thermal vents anyways. just build small outposts with power cell chargers in them, and pretend swapping out your empties into them is your "Cyclops thermal reactor" actually being worth a damn.
And maybe if you use a solar charger upgrade in a seamoth and use that to individualy charge the power cells of your cyclops, you could then have self sustaining cyclops.
"High in water content", riiiiight. It's Kindergarten math how wrong that is. 15 is less than 20, and other bottles are worth 40 and 50.
OP, anybody telling you that fruit is "Broken" are people who are too scared to spend any real amount of time away from their base or cyclops. It's handy to have around when you visit home, but it's no replacement for REAL sources of water, even ignoring the fact it's useless as a travel food source.
I just wish the sub could have solar panels to charge my Fuel Cell Chargers. Oh well, occasional base resupplies for fuel I guess.
But TBH a mix of all the growable food is the best way to go once you develop a sense of which gives you what in terms of food and water.
I usually have Melons, Bulbos, Chinese Potatoes and Lantern Fruit - because with the Stillsuit you will need straight-up food more than you need water - which is where the Potatoes come in - they grow fast, there are a lot of them per plant, and you can replant them without having to revert them to seeds (just another avoidable step - not the end of the world to make seeds first but if you can skip it, why not skip it).
Or sometimes you need a big chunk of food and water, so Melons. Or sometimes you just want to top off before heading out on a scavenging run, so Lantern Fruit. Or sometimes you need to top off your water but not your food, so Bulbos.
Mid- to Late-game I rarely eat fish unless it's an emergency and I'm far from "home" (base or Cyclops) so I'm forced to use the Heat Knife for a quick bite.
Also try find yourself a Cyclops power efficiency module as they will conserve power, allowing you to be able to charge power cells in a power cell charger and giving you unlimited power, like Markiplier did
Edit: Oops, slow typer I guess, Sharky beat me to it.
Edit 2: After testing and reading some other threads there is no longer a net gain from power cell chargers so unfortunately it's hovering over thermal vents to recharge from now on.
Edit 3: Gah! Late again! Sorry, didn't reload the page, Psicraft's post below is correct, no infinite power any more.
Keep in mind you could put multiple thermal reactors in your cyclops for a linear increase in power generation.
Build four coffee machines in a line and activate each one twice (double-click) for 8 cups of coffee.
(four is just a random number, build as many or as few as you like)
And when I say "high in water content", i mean they contain much more water than most other plants and therefore are a reliable and sustainable source of hydration. Bulbo trees are high in water content but they take forever to grow and take up a lot of space
Sure you could bring along some water bottles, but you WILL eventually run out. So growing marblemelons is a much more sustainable method.
