So I'm safe to save? Are you sure? I'd rather lose the fragments than my base with all my stuff.
Can someone at least tell me if this is a common occurence? Do I need to make sure I backup my save everytime I play?
If an update changes the biome terrain, your base can be destroyed/overwritten/disappear.
Most (if not all) of the biomes are now in place (they may add one or possibly two more), so depending on where you build your base this probably will not be a problem going forward.
The save was only a couple hours old--earlier today. My base was right under my escape pod in the shallows. That's the biome that changed. If I surface, I'm still the same place near the Aurora but everything underneath has changed. Mostly sand with a few patches of red grass. There isn't a kelp forest anywhere near. Very few resources at all. The worst part is my lost base, had a ton of inventory in it. I had accumulated so many blueprints. Oh well, I do know it's pre-alpha and s**t happens, still lots of hours gone. To look on the bright side, I know a lot more about the game so it won't take me near as long to get back to where I was.
BTW, I made the save in my Seamoth in the middle of the ocean. Would that have made a difference?
Did you have any kind of beacon on your base? Or were you using the Lifepod's beacon to find your base.
There is a well-known, well-documented bug that can teleport your Lifepod up to 1.5km from its original location. It's entirely possible that your base is right where you left it, you're just looking in the wrong place.
If your lifepod disappeared you can use the console command "randomstart" to move it back to one of the five original spawn locations - it may not return to where you originally spawned, but it will be close.
Full instructions on using the console can be found in the Wiki.
That's exactly what happened! I didn't even have to use the console command. I remembered I was so many meters se of #17 escape pod so I went to that and SE from there. When I got close, I immediately recognized the area and just searched around until I found it. All intact!
Now looking for some copper so I can make a beacon. Thanks so much!

Great job man! :)
+1
Regards,
Thanks again. But this is funny. I played some more today, went on another expedition and when I returned to my base, my pod was back where it started!
I did another save out in the seamoth. I'm wondering if it could be connected.
