Reefback Barnacles

So, I've had a big need for copper lately and searched the forum to find out a good place to find some. In one of the posts someone said there was silver and copper in the barnacles on reefbacks. I made several attempts to harvest the barnacles with no success.

Firstly, you don't get the option to "break" a barnacle when you are actually focused on a barnacle but sometimes if you are in the vacinity of one you get a message to break a barnacle with LMB. So I tried that several times and was mostly unsuccessful but there was one time that I did actually hear it break and even saw something briefly like it was going into my inventory but it didn't.

Is there a certain method to go about doing this? Or is it just something that's buggy?

It's buggy/added recently and not fully implemented yet.
