conan exiles has mode scaling.
there was one called "fuel consumption" which i thought slows bonfires but could be wrong.
Personally im looking for a way to use less mask energy as i dont think the loop of finding and filling the mask is fun when i use the search function of my hunter mask.
"I set my dmg to 1.5 and taken to 0.5 but then i was 2 shotting enemies i found too hard before... so now its like too hard or too easy and it feels wrong to change it like this, doesn't feel like it should be.
"
I think in general the combat has a pretty big problem of multiple enemies and CC, i havent felt much need either except until i hit 2 anacondas that cc you for 8 seconds, then throws you way and ccs you for another 5, and there is nothing you could do against it.
In reality it feels like a half baked mechanic where a minigame should be, eg spamming left right or using a combo of movement to wriggle out.
I also dont mind dying, i removed the death penalty for me by putting the loot where you spawn as i think its one of the mechanics of survival games that are just super boring, but the fact that the npcs has permadeath outside of whatever specific mumbo jumbo you get from the first boss that i havent gotten to yet makes me really unwilling to try and play on 1.0 damage.
i think its great it allows you to customize your experience, but its clear that what i think should be the game is not necessarily what others want from it, In my eyes if im playing a full marksman with full marksman stat and the best bow i can and i cant even oneshot headshot there is something super wrong.
what do you think the difference on casual and master difficulty is? is that cheating? is it cheating to play on casual? or are you cheating because you are only playing on normal and not master, the "real intended mode".
Which is an argument i can make just as reasonable as you can make "anything other than 1.0 is cheating"
especially when we talk about the scouts that you need to get the info from, to clear your map, the times i'v one hit kill them the first time i come across them is INSANE. and yes its part my fault because i useally BULK UP to much before i go out and explore, because i HATE DIEING AND RUNNING BACK for my lost gear.
its called fine tuning. again, Vrising and Conan Exiles have scaling separate from their sliders.
I went Archer too as I like archer class, but in this game its SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO slow tod raw and shoot and most of time enemies dodge roll your shoits even when attacking someone else... you should be able to run full speed and shoot with bows and drawing should be much quicker. I do Longbow Archery IRL and i can shoot an arrow VERY fast if needed, non of this 4 second to draw lol.
big reason i wont use bows for now. bow combat is just too slow for how fast some of the animals move. i leave it up to the tribesmen i deploy.
Also why can't my character fly and why is there no kamehameha? /s
Enemies constantly dodge rolling arrows is a very overpowered mechanic, I'll give you that, but you people already have the option to adjust the game to your needs and still you complain that by default (which is intended for multiplayer, which the devs have said and who are you to question their design for their game when they even give you the option to adjust it) you aren't freakin Legolas one shotting everything that moves while running at full speed.
If you need your power fantasies to be satisfied then go for it, cause you already can. So stop complaining and just do your thing, why is this so difficult for you?
Okay except you are ignoring a fully drawn beast longbow can do 200 damage headshot, where as a beast spear can not only be thrown to retrieve enemies for 200 total damage, but also make a 6 stab combo for an easy 400 damage total.
There is a massive difference in the usability and damage of the weapons, and its utterly silly to go "Nu uh you just want power fantasy" when an actual complaint is pointed out.
If you dont think the slowest greatbow that cant be used in combat as its too slow to draw and you get knocked out of animation if you get hit should be able to oneshot low level beasts, what should it do then?
There is a complete lack of scaling from dedication, even if i go full profeciency towards hunting and boost the stat only for bow damage its still better and faster for me to just spam the spear.
And where did this mechanic of the longer you draw the more accurate you become lol? that's not how bows work, such a strange system.
Anyone like me who shoots a Medieval Longbow, wood, no sights etc, knows its pure instinct and you don;t aim down your arrow etc you raise, draw shoot very quickly and accurately without aiming, this is the skill. which is why the slowness in this game makes no sense
Personally I kept XP games at default, but adjusted all gathering to 1.25. I did damage in and damage out to 1.1 and 0.9 which is halfway between normal and easy. However while that seems to mostly be doable for me as I've played a lot of the beta and demo I think I might just adjust it further as the current enemy balance is just a frustrating mess with the stun locks, the constant dodges and such that it can feel almost random how punished or not you get. The combat just isn't rewarding enough in it's current state for me to want to make it challenging, particularly when dealing with groups like at the barracks. That I think is where the real pain points for solo play come in is when you fight a large group.
Not combat related but I'd also recommend turning off decay for solo play as it's not a particularly interesting mech and it's main purpose is to clear out buildings when players stop playing.
All that said I REALLY understand that messing with advanced settings to have to fine tune an experience is not something you can really expect most players to want to do or know how to do. The game really does need "game modes" imho where the settings are pre-tweaked for different scenarios. We should have the official server modes as options, then a friends mode with casual->hardcore and a solo mode with casual->hardcore.
Agree with the whole statement. As it is EA, dont expect everything to scale properly.
Current defaults are definitely set up for Multiplayer. Tweaking it down for the Solo experience gives me two options at the moment:
Play on default and get stuck on boss/high end content (I'm looking at you Plunderers and dungeons).
Tweak down and make the general content weak but be able to get past tough bosses/dungeon runs.
Asking for a Solo scaling set up at some point down the road pls.
the only bad thing is the rubber-banding and lag.. makes it unplayable
Scaling takes choice away from the players.
Might be someone wants to try a boss on hard while solo but try doing that when scaling is in a game and wont let you. Same deal with maybe you want to play on easy with a couple friends and NOT have the enemies scale up simply cause you have a couple friends along with you.
Well my post mostly responded to the autoscaling part of the OP. If Bows are actually that unbalanced, that is a whole other topic and I won't deny that, as I haven't played bow a lot and can't give a valid point of view on that. But the OP was mostly about the scaling issue in Soloplay which is currently being handled by giving you the option to adjust it to your liking.
