Is combat AI somehow different in this version? I played the original Star Control 2 way back, and I swear the combat wasn't this hard. You get the Avatar at the end of the game, and it's touted as being good against either kind of Ur Quan ship. My experience is that it tended to take heavy damage or just die when facing Ur Quan. Yes, it has a powerful weapon, point-defense satellites, and a lot of HP. The problem is the weapon range is extremely short, the ship's speed is mediocre, and the turn rate is terrible.
