Fishtronomy Patch Notes V1.2.0

Version 1.2.0

It's been close to a week since the launch of Fishtronomy, so we're here with a whole bunch of small additions, fixes, and improvements to hopefully make your job as a Fishtronomer even better! These changes cover multiple aspects of the game but are primarily focused on introducing more Quality of Life features and small improvements to the game's visual presentation.

New Features

Layer Toggle Update: Players can now toggle layers by clicking the Layer Icon, in addition to using the middle mouse button.
Story Enhancements: Introduced a clearer connecting cutscene between the Third Act and Final Act to improve narrative flow so it isn't as abrupt.
Save Deletion: Added ability to clear your save file / restart your save from the options menu if needed.

Improvements

Puzzle Enhancements: Made various small-scale improvements to puzzle design to enhance gameplay clarity and challenge balance.
Improved Level Select Camera: The camera in the Level Select Menu now focuses on the newest unlocked level set instead of defaulting to the first level set (Fish(t) Steps).

Fixes

Unintended Constellation Delays: Changed timing when finishing a puzzle so that the constellation lines appear and dissapear when they're supposed to.
Missing Level Cosmetics: Resolved issues where certain cosmetic effects, such as ash particles and sparkle effects, were not appearing as intended.
Improved Tooltips: Fixed missing or incorrect tooltips on some Options Menu buttons.
Inconsistent SFX Volume: Fixed an issue where certain sounds were not being properly affected by the SFX Volume Slider in the options menu.
'Phebe' Sprite Bounce: Resolved an issue where the Phebe sprite did not bounce as intended when changing expressions.
Script cleanup: Cleaned up and simplified various different game code/scripts throughout the game.

Thank you for your continued support of Fishtronomy! While this V1.2.0 patch is intended to streamline and improve the gameplay experience based on feedback received during the initial launch of the game, there's more substantial planned updates on the horizon!

Fishtronomy (O-fish-ially) Launches!

🎉 That's right! Fishtronomy is Here! 🐟🌌

Despite a few small delays behind the scenes that caused us to move from our initially planned late-November launch into early-December, Fishtronomy is now officially available for release! You can now dive into the game, (get it? Dive? Like… fish… water? That sounded better in my head), and experience the small-scale cosmic adventure through space first hand – a space filled with way, way too many fish. And one quirky guide to help you through it all.

What Can You Expect from Fishtronomy?

Silly, physics-based interactions between fish that’ll make you think (and also that get very, very chaotic).
Minimalistic mixed art-style, featuring starry space-themed visuals with cozy pixel art.
A relaxing yet cosmic soundtrack to accompany your journey. (Composed by the very talented Cris "Ariyassa" Luu)
A little story about the cosmos, fish, mysterious beasts lurking in the night sky, and everything in between.

A quick fishtrospective:

Developing Fishtronomy over the past few months has been a very fun, interesting, and informative process. From brainstorming different ways that the game could be expanded and improved from the original concept it was based on to crafting a small, simple, but still interesting and fun narrative to tie everything together. This project has truly been a fun and passionate one.

From humble roots as a jam game (which had a way more confusing name) to a full Steam release, no matter how small of a release that is, Fishtronomy has had a very wonderful, exciting, sometimes terrifying, but very fun development journey, and hopefully the game reflects that by being fun to play in turn.

Okay, now what?

The game is now fully released on Steam but that doesn’t mean it’s over quite yet! Currently there’s an update being worked on which should be available later this month (December) that aims to address some of the most common suggestions and feedback that the game has already received since launch, which will hopefully make the game even better moving forward!
