MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics

Why are these 20 year veterans so toxic?
can you give us new players some slack?

Remember: Chess is ancient and new adept chess players emerge all the time.

Also, some players have been scrubs for decades and erroneously think that time = skill.

You can, in 2024, put in a modicum of practice and steal wins from those players.

You know what's funny? After you get bullied in game, if you stopped acting like such a whiny baby and reached out to any of these players they'd actually take the time to help you.

It's gate keeping in the best way. You improve and take your loss well, you get help. That's the way it was and the way it always will be in these old games. You whine like a little baby on the steam forums and you get made fun of for it.

As such, the community naturally weeds out toddlers. People who play MvC2 love to bust each others balls and have a good time. But outside the game everyone is genuinely pretty nice and helpful.

We get it modern games have removed taunting, chat, voice chat, and really any other avenue for griefing left. Then you come to MvC2, a game that's built on bugs and playing lame, you're going to get your ass beat. It's up to you to get better and not be a crybaby about it. Tons of resources and people willing to help you out there. This game is complicated and it doesn't hold your hand. You have to actually learn it.

So you have a choice you can either fix your attitude or leave. No one cares about you specifically. You aren't special. People have been playing this game for 20+ years without you and will continue to do so.

That is exactly what i mean. I played against a really good player and i friended him then he just insultet me instead of giving tips or something. Its no whining. I want to get better and have fun and help also build the commuinity. You are also one of those people i guess. Why do you start with insulting me, "that i whine, saying no one cares, just leave" etc.
There is A-holes everywhere, but also very good and nice people. I see you're from Germany, I'm from Switzerland, we could play some matches if you want. My level is really not that high on these particular games, I'm really average at best. I'm a polite and zen person, you can add me if you want to play for fun and improve in the process.
I see where both sides are coming from, but personally I am in the camp that veterans should take it easy on new players, or at least provide an enjoyable challenge, because that's how the community grows. I think the Steam population is so low in part due to lots of players seeing that it's not even worth trying to get good if everyone on the other side is godlike all the time.
What's causing you trouble specifically that you can't find an answer for OP? Is it a team comp? A game plan? (trap zoning? rush-down?). A specific character? A specific move? Being cornered? Finding your turn?

My guess is if you reach out here with a specific question that you can't solve, you'll get some helpful answers. That's generally how veterans "give new players some slack" from my experience -> they share what they know to help you grow to their level.

It's unfortunate you ran into someone hostile, but hostile people are not exclusive to veterans. Merely an unfortunate biproduct of an online multiplayer space in which people seldom see their opponent's eyes anymore.

you're in their realm now. find other people at your skill level, get good or just leave.
I think ppl need to chill out with the “get good” in a game like this. Does losing to a veteran who has played this game for 20 years mean you suck and are unskilled? This is a whole different level.

You need to look at this realistically. The player base is small, and many players are likely much better than you. Your options are try to find others at your skill level or focus on improving your own skills. I bet many of the '20-year veterans' people are complaining about aren't actually veterans themselves. The skill gap in this game can seem vast, even when it isn’t. To a new player, the difference between a beginner and a slightly more experienced player can feel insurmountable.

How exactly are they "toxic?" Because from most of the threads I've seen complaining about this topic, the "toxicity" amounts to "after years of practice, they've learned to play the game better than you."

Which isn't toxic, it's the point of the game.
How's the lab/tutorial in this game? Do noobs at least have something they can use to learn and practice? This game seems so overwhelming, I can't imagine how I would even begin training.

There are resources all over the internet about these games. I started labbing/learning XMvSF and found a slew of combo guides on the Super Combo Wiki. Same goes for most, if not all the other games. The community has documented these games very well.

Oh definitely. I've basically played this game every time it's come out on a new platform since the arcade days then take huge gaps due to both availability and you know...wanting to do other things. That said, I don't consider myself good and I'm still sitting at like a 80% win rate in ranked; just because some old knowledge is better than no knowledge. There are levels to this in a way that doesn't really exist in that many modern games anymore. For example, this is before the era of wide scale comeback mechanics in fighting games. I go play Tekken 8 on occasion and there are 3 different ways for new players to just hit one button and immediately do 30% - 40%. You do this 3 times and the round ends.

I find that way less interesting if I'm being honest, but it's why modern fighting games have expanded their casual base for sure.

If someone new took the time to actually git gud they'd stomp me because I'm playing off ancient information and muscle memory. The last time I really played the game was the 360 release with a bit of fightcade here and there over the last 4-5 years.

you are one of the problems. Already just mean to newbies. Give some tips and be nice. Only 500 players active. it will deterioate in a month and no one is playing the game everyone waited for 20 years.
i dont want it to die but sadly it wont last at this rate without crossplay so i now must dominate you to the fullest extent while i have the time

I hope you're wrong. MvC2 is always kind of around. Whether that means this or fightcade I'm not sure. It really did need cross play though.

I go back to the other fighting collection and it's a miracle if I can find a Puzzle Fighter or SF2 match online.

i really hate auto combos thats why i like strive and this collection so much i think a good middle ground would be to have the exact same controls as 2xko and totally do away with autocombos i believe that will still retain the casuals while keeping pro players happy anyone who thinks fighting games would be two buttons is crazy it takes all the fun out of learning new characters and different strats ....I have five million ways to come at someone with May on Strive and 100s of team combinations for MvC that only learned cause i CHOSE to learn it you will never be great at fighting games if you always get ur combos handed to you
