Multiple Enchants
How do I put more than one enchantment on an item? I am using an enchanting table, but for some reason, enchanting is locked to one enchant per item, and nothing I can find on the internet tells me what I am missing to be able to multi-enchant.....

This option wasn't added until Skyrim with a perk.

But it is an option in Oblivion Remastered...

Edit: I found out what was wrong. Apparently it is a bug with the game itself and the only ways to fix it is to either reload the game, relaunch the game, or keep intering/exiting the alter menu and trying to enchant until it works correctly.

So they've added that as well lol! They Skyrimification of Oblivion. Hey, to each their own.

Yeah, and apparently there's another thing to note.... Multiple enchants on weapons only. Single enchant on clothing/armor/jewelry (Which doesn't make a lot of sense to me, since there are stuff outside of weapons that have multiple enchants natively.... : /)
It's made that way to make unique items appealing, instead of skyrims "make your best in slot god item"

For someone who goes around posting unsolicited pics of his oblivion character in threads all over the place, you seem to know little about it. You could always do multiple enchants on items, it's been like that since morrowind.

I actually don't remember multi-enchant being a thing in the original Oblivion... Never played enough of Morrowind, so I wouldn't know about that chapter.

Still doesn't make sense not to allow it for armor if you can do it to weapons. Unique weapons fit the same category slot that rings/amulets/clothes/armor fall under in that regard, so why would you allow weapons to be multi-enchanted, but nothing else?

Edit: And fundamentally, your information is inaccurate, because Skyrim's enchanting system only allowed a max of 3 enchantments on a single item, but you could only do it one time. After that perk, it went back to a max of 2 enchants per item.

You could only do it with soul gem enchanting and only on weapons (armour never allowed multiple enchants in oblivion unlike morrowind), and you gotta reduce the magnitude of your first enchant as you are limited by the strength of the soul gem. You can't do multiple with sigil stones, but they can give you slightly stronger enchants.

It's just one of many examples where they dumbed down a skill (actually removing enchanting as a skill) and nerfing enchanting for "balance" but mostly to justify the sigil stones and rewards from oblivion gates.

Good to know. Thanks for the info there.

You can't do multiple enchants in original Oblivion you could only apply multiple effects during a single enchant, based on the capacity of your soulgem. I know this since I didn't read it from the internet :)

So you can't double the potential damage output by enchanting a second time, you could only divide the total possible damage multiple ways. Or you could sacrifice some of the possible total damage so you could add Soul Trap, etc.

I don't remember anything about Morrowind anymore. I still have it installed (OpenMW) but it's so boring now I can never make it past level 10 without falling asleep.

Maybe the OP means multiple effects ala the Original rather than multiple enchants ala Skyrim?

P.S. Oops! I guess my memory of Skyrim might be what's lagging. I can't really remember if you could enchant twice, or just add a second effect. Here's for you :)

The altar you use in Oblivion to tack enchantments on unenchanted items is LITERALLY labeled 'Altar of Enchanting'. Enchantment literally is putting effects on an item.... Skyrim only even allowed 2 enchantments with the master rank perk being called Miracle which allow you to put 3 enchantments on 1 item and you can only use it 1 time before Skyrim locks you back at 2 enchantments per item. And I wasn't asking about skill ranks/levels in this regard. I already knew that the skill wasn't a trainable thing.

As stated in a previous post, I figured out what was wrong, and that it is a bug with the Altar of Enchanting itself, and there is only a handful of ways to fix it, also as I have stated in the same post.

I was never asking about how to change or add to an already enchanted item, which is my fault because I didn't specify in my original query.

Edit: To summarize, on weapons, you CAN add several effects - fire, frost, shock, health drain/absorb, etc. if you get the altar to work right. I made a steel shortsword with fire, frost, shock, absorb health, drain health, weakness to fire, weakness to frost, weakness to shock, and drain fatigue with a black soul gem. It doesn't have a great deal of charges, and I have to recharge the sword after just about every fight, but it works when the altar works properly.
