**update** i finally found a regular ebony helmet! from a "vampire warrior" inside memorial cave (i was lvl 26 when i found it, it was during the quest order of the virtuous blood but that shouldnt matter)

**nevermind theres a chance even the guy next to argarmir will be helmetless sometimes** You have to do unfriendly competition at lv20 so that the enemy standing with argarmir is wearing full ebony armor. Its the only way. Shops dont sell it. it doesnt spawn on enemies. Some friendly npcs at roxy house wear ebony helmet but how will you get that without the disgusting stolen icon?

there is no other way to get a real ebony helmet.

It does not spawn on enemies in caves. I did about 100 reloads at rockmilk cave from levels 15-23 and ebony helmet is NOT in the loot table. If it is its bugged. Because half the time the ringleaders are wearing no helmet at all. Which is when i suspect they are SUPPOSED to be wearing an ebony helmet. You will never find a regular enemy or boss in any cave wearing an ebony helmet. You will never find a merchant selling an ebony helmet.

20 times they have glass helmet
20 times they have mythril helmet
20 times they have elven helmet
40 times they have no helmet

seriously driving me nuts i have every other armor in the game. I think im gonna load a save from 15 hours ago and do unfriendly competition at lv20 instead of lv25 (i did it at lv25 to get the best version of the umbra sword)

Marauder Warlords have a 25% chance to have a Helmet which can be Ebony or Daedric, as Marauders wear heavy armour, Warlords are the prime targets for Helmets and Gauntlets, they also have a chance for them to be enchanted too, which sucks. Just save before the door in every area of a Marauder dungeon.

If you kill a Warlord and they don't drop the helmet, reload a save from the previous area and re-enter, their gear is determined at the first point they are loaded, so restarting from the previous cell gives a chance to get a different gear set-up on the Marauder Warlord

Umbra has a Custom Ebony set but it's not enchanted at all and if acquired at the correct level then it will match a full set of Ebony, no issue.

I've had a few drop in the wild, the latest one spawned in the shimmering isles, in one of the root caves, in the green oak things.

i dont think you guys understand i have been looking for an ebony helmet since 10am, like 10 hours straight, all day long

reloaded rockmilk cave like 100 times
reloaded fort strand like 100 times

the warlords are wearing either glass, elven, mithril, or no helmet at all

Best suggestion would be to find a Bandit controlled ruin, make a hard save outside the ruin, then go in, and raid the place. If you don't find one, reload the hard save, and do it again. Rinse and repeat until you do find the helmet. I did this last night to find a full set of Master Alchemy gear. It'll take a while, but it does work.

Or go fight Umbra. That's a full set of Ebony and the highest damage long sword in the game for the reward.

Doesn't selling a stolen item to a fence (and buying it back) remove the stolen icon? I think one of the NPCs in Dunbarrow Cove is a fence, if you aren't in the thieves guild.

Look for Caves and Forts that have enemies that wear Heavy Armor. Just run them one after another, you'll get a full set of whatever Armor you're looking for there. Same for Caves and Forts with enemies that wear Light Armor.

It may take a bit of work to kill her however.

Bandits usually have light armor.
Marauders usually have heavy armor.
If you go to the EUSP you & https://mapgenie.io/oblivion/maps/cyrodiil you can find good spawn points for them.

Umbra's Ebony gear is levelled, so if you kill her at level 1, it'll be equivalent to Orcish in terms of armor rating, you need to wait until level 15 for the set that matches Ebony Gear in all stats.

I only found 2 ebony helmets in 200 hours of game time (not counting Umbra's),and the both were in chests

and thanks to whoever said get umbra gear at lv15, im wearing it now. I dont care so much about regular ebony anymore (id still like to get it ill definately be keeping my eye out)

im worried that its just no longer an item thats part of the loot drop tables

oh and i did the unfriendly competition quest again so agarmirs friend would be wearing fully ebony again, and this time around he had no helmet on. Could ebony helmet be literally bugged out of my current save? And it wants to spawn on npcs but it just doesnt?

No, you can get all the pieces, but helmets are notoriously rare. It took me a very long time to find an unenchanted glass helmet. Daedric and leather were no problem at all, but the rest....
(Seems most of my bandits and marauders went bareheaded all the time. I raided Fort Blueblood without success several times, as there are only marauders there.)

ive been calling this "the sacred playthrough". I got baurus blades gear set (minus the shield) in the tutorial sewer, then i followed a guide (a guide i thought would take 30 seconds) to be able to get the emperors robe. I had to become arch mage. Get the staff of worms and skull of corruption. i had to make sure to NOT hand amulet to jauffre in waynon priory so that the kings body does not despawn from the tutorial sewers. i had to make sure to not start the dark brotherhood questline either. So i got to like lv25 without ever handing in the amulet to jauffre yet, i got full ebony set and everything.

Then i went to go visit sword and steel in chorrol but the door was not working.. OH MY GOD.. i totally forgot i disabled that door while making a quick youtube video to show people you can walk inside low-res interiors and look around. I guess the door just visually reappears if you leave/come back. So i didnt notice anything wrong with my game.

Then i realized what i had done, so i loaded an old save back to lv11...FML

Now everything is perfect again except this time around i cant get ebony helmet

i havent googled anything and dont want to know any spoilers, but ive found some unusual items. Some weird outfits. Love games stuffed with pointless
