Invisible borders make me mad
Good people of the Imperial City!

I was in Anvil and was hopping across rooftops. The wall around the city has a ledge that looked like it accommodate me with a well placed jump, but I was pushed back...by an invisible wall! Let me jump out of the city for Christs' sake.

Somebody get Chris Jericho up in this ♥♥♥♥♥.

Well the city interior is it's own level, the same as a dungeon being it's own thing. This game also came out in 2006.

I did that in the original.

There were no invisible borders but you jumped into the abyss.
Like into a no NPC land without anything or even to option to enter dungeons.

So using invisible wall to prevent that was just logical. :wellok:
As long as no "Open Cities"-equivalent for the remaster appears (which would be a performance-horror even more than the game already is), there is no use in jumping over citiy walls.
So I get, why there are these when they weren't there in the OG.

The only thing I really dislike are the invisible world borders.
There was a simple INI-setting to disable that, yet nobody has yet figured out how to change it in the remaster. :(

There is a hole in the map border south of Kvatch

Thanks, but that's for people who genuinely want to go outside of the map and explore it.
I'd like to be in the playable area, but without any invisible borders that even tell me I cannot go that way. :wellok:

Soon: we will exit the cyber city and continue onto the rest of the world.

I see, so jumping out of the city would break the game. Maybe we can compromise at letting me have the ledge? (https://imgur.com/a/GrkYHMa). I'd still be in the city and get to practice my parkour.
FYI:there are also invisible walls on the cathedral's rooftops. So no jumping there, either.

Sorry, I'll try to clarify. I meant outside the city, not outside the edges of Cyrodiil's map.
Turns out you can actually *walk* on the invisible wall https://imgur.com/a/2mtMd86

I did this by jumping on the turret and then trying to move to the ledge. I also tried to jump out of the city, but I was blocked by another invisible wall. I have footage of it, but I'm not sure where I can post videos anonymously, and I don't want to link my personal youtube channel or cloud accounts.
you're going to have to wait until someone ports the open cities mod to the remastered.

I found some invisible walls surrounding a small island in the waters around the imperial city. Saw some fire up there, but it just doesnt let you up there. Super curious what its for now. :D
There is no 'outside the city'. The city exists floating in it's own pocket dimension. Whatever you can see beyond the walls is just like a painted backdrop on a stage. If you did manage to find a break in the wall, and you might find one, then you would fall through the map in an endless drop until the game crashes and corrupts your saves. There are places in the game where this can happen because many people have experienced it including myself. You don't want to do that. Oblivion is not an open world game. It's a patchwork held together by smoke and mirrors because that's all it's ancient engine can do.
