Too Many Oblivion Gates (WARNING: Possible Spoiler)
Is there such a thing as: Too Many Oblivion Gates?

I'm only barely following the main quest. I occasionally close an Oblivion Gate here and there. But I've noticed there seems to be more and More gates opening. I just passed 2 across the Road from one another. At his point I'm 80% sure there is, no less, that 6 Gates currently open... possibility more.

Is this going to be a Problem? Do I need to start following the main quest line?

I was about to get back on the Main Quest, but only for 1 or 2 more steps.

If possible, please don't give away too much (No Spoilers... this is my First Playthrough). My main concern is: Am I going to Regret allowing so many gates to be open.

Advanced Thanx

Gates are just optional dungeons. Some of the gates actually lead to the same dungeon but you start at a different side and closing one of those closes all 3.

There is no penalty to not closing gates, more open as you progress through the main story and once you complete the story ALL GATES ARE CLOSED FOREVER.

Be aware also that if you do not like closing gates, the quest "Allies for Bruma" is an optional quest in the main story that you can skip.

There are 60 gates total that will open during main questline. It is advisable to explore some of them as they give some good loot. Chorrol gate especially have secret area where you can find game's strongest bow if you pick it up when level 19th or higher.

Actually, if several Gates lead to the same Oblivion map, grabbing the Sigil stone will close only one of them. The other gates stay active, and will just change their link to another map.
You don't have to close them all and you don't get anything for closing them all..just use them for loot/sigil stones

Source: I've closed them all before...I think there might be an achievement tho, I forget

I assume only story specific gates have unique items like that? I have been exploring(fully, to my knowledge) ever gate I've come across so far. But just in case, its good to know whether I should be extra thorough or not.

Nope. Every Oblivion world that looks just like the one during Chorrol gate quest, contains same loot - bow, mace and some arrows. Which means that you can loot multiple copies of same items. It is actually easy to reroll and get the world that you want, as long as you save before entering. But this works only on random gates as story gate worlds are fixed and can't be rerolled.

This is Great Info... Thanx Mate. I actually enjoy closing gates... but I need lots of breaks from that, because they take me so long to close. Lots and Lots of Sneaking around :).

once your level 17+ then its worth doin some gates as then the enchantmends you get from the stones are usualy better then what the enchanting taple can do for you

Np, just remember that they are somewhat well hidden. :cozycrashfish:
and if you want to save/reload before you pick up the sigil stone you can get what you want. Kinda cheesy and not needed but it's there.
i personally finished the main quest and then right away back to a older save before speaking to Martin because i felt the Oblivion gates not only made doing any of the caves and dungeons completely pointless but also because the loot from the gates utterly broke the economy (i had 300k gold just from selling Daedric armor and weapons).

Sigil Stone farming made me into a dirty save scummer and i could not live with this.
