Lock picking is broken?

I promise I'm not whining about the mechanics of lock picking. I've recently run into a problem where I can't push back the tumblers. The lock pick will move, and I can attempt to force the lock, and sometimes that will work, but I can't actually get any of the tumblers to respond in any way. I still appear to level the skill too (I got frustrated and spammed the space bar at one point and my skill went up). Has anyone else encountered something like this? I've been searching online to see if anyone has run into this before but haven't had any luck.
