If you use poison or some damage over time effect it typically doesn't count, for some reason, as a murder.
To be extra sure, you need to kill them in melee (although ranged attacks that are not too far away can work as well) without any damage over time or elemental effect.

Be aware you will likely want to do that quest at a low level anyway because if you're a high enough level the archers will have the paralyze perk meaning in all likelihood the game will crash as soon as the main forces reach the trapped hall due to the double paralyze bug.
