Umbra - Semi-Spoiler
If you don't know what Umbra is... you should really stop reading.

Otherwise: I'm considering using Umbra, however, my concern is ending up with a Bunch of Petty and Lesser Souls stuck inside of Grand and Greater SoulGems. This was an issue in Skyrim (unless you had a Mod). I'm not using Mods in this game (yet), but I'm hoping this simply is not a issue in Oblivion.

So... if I'm using Umbra will I end up trapping every little soul in whichever SoulGem is Available?

Advanced Thanx

Well, I imagine that if you are using umbra and only have a grand empty a rat is going to fill it.

Or you can just get azura's star. I tend to leave umbra completely drained unless I am intentionally gathering souls.

To me, the only appeal with using Umbra is the fact that it can weigh zero until the quest for it comes around. Otherwise a daedric sword or even ebony with an enchantment that adds more damage will outpace umbra.

Any real reason you are choosing Umbra in general?
LoL... It never dawned on me to 'Just let the Charges Run Out!!!'.

I was choosing this weapon Primarily because A) The damage is awesome... (though you are right, with the Right Add-Ons I can Enchant an Equal weapon. However... B) is because of the Zero Weight.

But to be honest... I'm now looking at my current Sword. Dam: 8 Enchanted Fire Dam: 20 Enchanted Absorb Health: 15 - Weight is 20, but considering everything else; I can live with that.

RoFL... I'm often so focused on finding something better... I forget to look at what I've got. LoL

Thanx Mate

They never really tweaked the system to deal with soulgems and such, and likely never will since Skyrim does the same thing.

You aren't even mid game yet, weapons has a full damage range if you are 100 blade and 100 str/agi basically.

A majority of players will likely shoot past lv5 to 10 easily and never see a iron dagger that does more than 2-3 damage due to the leveledlist item drops by the time they gained enough str and blades.

But at the same time spells scales all the way up to 200+ damage shots and base weapons only up to around 28-32 damage on vanilla.

I'm using mods that uncaps damage scaling but weapon's base damage still only reach around the 20s and 30s due to my blades being 50.

Once its 100 I'll likely hit 40s, though enemies don't benefit from this uncapper mod, so the challenge sorta starts dwindling down.

Just use the Azura's Star strat. Ez.
@Kai: To be honest... Sadly... I'm not really sure I understand much of what you're speaking. As well... I'm not sure where Mid-Game is, but I'm currently Lvl 21, however... I do more Side-Questing and Closing Gates than anything else. Currently, though I'm not working on it... Barus (I think), recently told me to Speak with someone at the Arcane University in Imperial City. So I'm not far with the main story, but I've gotten a lot of other things done. But again... I have no idea what Mid-Game would be in Oblivion; or more Specificly... Mid-Level.

Note: Please do not give anything away. Though I've been playing Skyrim for Years this is my First PlayThrough with Oblivion. :)
FYI -- Regarding Azura's Star... Assuming it works as it did in Skyrim; it really would not serve my purposes. I'm NOT looking for a means of refilling a Weapon (Although, I do need that as well; but I use Common and Below for that purpose.) My interest in SoulGems (Greater and Better) are for Enchanting Armour. Right now, all my Armour Pieces increase my Intelligence by 9; but as I grow... I'm going to want to Replace my current armour with Better... and Better armour.

Use the DLC armors they can be bought indefinitely.

No idea, figure it out. You just said not to give anything way so have fun with discovering everything for the first time. :)

Unfortunately the problem is still the same it always uses the biggest gem in the inventory. One thing I am noticing is that the system seems to be level based. As an example at around level 15 I noticed that if I killed a mud crab while having a lesser or petty soul in my inventory I get the you don't have a gem big enough for this soul message. They where filing them no problem earlier in the game but now the souls seems to have gotten bigger some how.

I have also noticed a lot more found items have the soul trap enchant. An odd thing is i have a two handed iron sword with ten charges of it but the dwarven short sword has forty charges. I know there are different versions of the spell that seem to involve the radius the spell effects, I haven't gotten them but I am guessing they allow you to get more then one target if you use area of effect spells. I am wondering if the enchants are using the same system. The only thing I have noticed is the lower level sword needs recharged a lot more, but as pointed out with soultrap an empty enchant isn't always a bad thing.

Hahaha no problem. (:
If it is solely damage output, I mean just go use Umbra on some bandits or something so it runs out. It is a prettier sword this time around and it not having weight was a big plus for me.

When you need souls, I just get some low level soul trap spell and hotkey it to like 8 or something when I need it.

If you haven't gotten to daedric.... I will say they look really bad to me personally in the remaster.... which is a shame. I think I need to go after that shivering isle sword that has the dual enchantments..... I was waiting to go into the Shivering Isles until I was "The Hero of Cyrdiil" though. xD Sorry bit of a rant there. :P
Yes, I have a ton of soul gems - grand, greater and so on, filled with petty or lesser souls. But I know there is a mod which is supposed to fix this issue. Though I haven't tried it yet myself. It's on Nexus.

I'm pretty sure the Azura star can be used to enchant. (: Go crazy. :D
With regular gems it destroys the gem and uses the soul, with the star it just uses the soul.

Yeah, looking at it using the star in the remaster still works as it did in the original. That should solve your enchanting problem (:

I should have explained that further. I can be a bit anal... I never like wearing mixed armour; so I don't enchant one piece until I'm able to enchant them all. I guess after a while, you start to think everyone has these same OCDs - LoL.
