Can't Enter Oblivion Gates (Resolved!)
'This door leads nowhere.', is the message I get when trying to enter gates in my current save. I have no mods installed that affect Oblivion Gates in any way... is there any way to fix this other than completely starting over?

What stage of the main quest are you at?
Do a "verify file integrity" through Steam.

Just gotten the quest to go to Lake Arrius Caverns, and infiltrate the Mythic Dawn.
Even if you have no mods related to the gates, other mods can still change that much to cause issues.
Try to remove all mods, and see if you still have the issue.

Vanilla game does not have this issue at all.

FYI the Main Quest affects the behaviour of the Gates which is why I asked.

Have you been using the console to clip out of areas and skip loading zones? That seems to be the usual cause of this particular error. If you somehow get out of an Oblivion world in a way the game does not expect, this glitch can happen.

The Unofficial Oblivion Patch fixed this error from triggering in specifically Random Oblivion World 7. I assume that's not your situation though.

It's possible for this error to occur if you've somehow opened an excessive number of Gates, to the point the game has run out of ID refs to assign them. A bad mod would probably be the culprit here.

Um, sorry what? I think you are posting in the wrong thread.

And I appreciate you asking, as it helps narrow down issues! But thankfully, I seem to have fixed it...

See, awhile back in my run, I'd farmed a random gate out in the wilderness to get Hatred's Soul... and left after getting it. Turns out that stopped other gates from working, but I resolved it by completing that particular gate. It's the one that's a short walk from Kvatch, just north-northwest of it.

Brilliant! I'm glad you figured it out and it was an easy fix.
